We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

Two viewpoints I disagree with:

1) "Just put a guy back there who doesn't fumble." To me this equates to forfeiting a potentially important part of the game. Fielding punts, to my understanding, is an acquired skill. If you have an explosive return man who fumbles too often, then keep practicing him on fielding punts until he gets it.

2) "You can't risk injury to one of your star players by having him return punts/kicks." This isn't how it's done in college football. In the pros, many teams (though not all) have return specialists. In college, the norm is that you put your best guy back there. Maybe not Cox since he already touches the ball so much, but no reason it can't be a starting receiver or DB.
We could put a starting DB like a Corey Lynch back there.
Right, I'm sure we all wish Corey Lynch had never been allowed to play special teams. What good ever came from that?

Pointing out a decade-old injury doesn't mean anything to me. Guys get hurt playing football. You put your best players on the field and hope for the best.

To be fair I was complaining about him in our loses as well. Never been a BoBo guy. Works hard, truly cares, just makes too many mental mistakes and isnt very athletic. Just my opinion., you are more than welcome to disagree.
Actually, Bobo is very athletic. He would be a great WR for a Gardner Webb, Wofford, Elon type school. He's just not App State WR material.
Come on Guys - HE IS AN APPALACHIAN STATE MOUNTAINEER FOOTBALL PLAYER - he plays his role and does it well --- Come on !!!
Like I said in another post, "To bad we don't have a negative rep point for some posts". WVAPPeer, this isn't directed to you at all. It's towards several others.

I pull for him every time he plays. What else can I do?
Stop saying stuff like this ---

All I mean is that we've had some great starting WRs over the past few years. Bobo isn't one of them. Let's not take that out of context, please.
If you had said this to begin with, almost everyone would have been in complete agreement. Stating that he "isn't App State WR material" is way over the top.

Tony Washington was a good returner, but often he wouldn't catch the ball and it would roll deep into our territory. I'd rather have consistent decent starting field position rather than occasional good returns, and often being pinned inside the 5.

One more comment on this. THERE IS NO PLAYER ON THIS TEAM WHO IS NOT ASU MATERIAL!!!!
Oh give me a break. Based on some of the WRs we've had over the last decade, he doesn't stack up favorably. I didn't start a petition to have him stripped of his uniform.

Jeez. Don't blow a simple comment about on-the-field play out of proportion.
It was not a simple comment about on the field play It was what kind of material he is referring to Garner Web. I am fed up with this attitude about our " pre FBS recruits". These guys got us here and we owe them a debt of gratitude not a constant " you just aren't good enough for us any more." We moved up but not exactly to the SEC. Some folks need an attitude change. We can be proud of where we are without constantly demeaning those player that you don't think are good enough for us any more.

100% Amen! If the team was full of guys that put out his effort we would be just fine. I'm not saying he's great, but he "gives his all for App St".

I still say that our special teams issues go beyond returns and have been an issue for years. Needs to be addressed. Get a dedicated ST coach (even a Grad Ass like UNC CHeat), or more than 1 guy sharing the duty with position responsibilities (like NC STale).
Sooooo when can we expect that check for the Rick0714 endowed ST coaching position?
As I stated, dedicating a GA or adding another position coach to assist with special teams is what other schools do. There is no costs associated. They are already on staff. It's just making ST a priority instead of an apparent afterthought. To be fair, many schools do the same thing we do now, but its just not working for us. Besides, if you're waiting for a check from me, get in line! You can only divide 0 so many times.
To be fair, I do understand what you are saying. Although I am not sure what a GA could do for ST other than a babysitter and count the # of people on the field. I just get tired of hearing why don't we do this or that or the other. We are tapped out of $$$, attendance is way down and debt is coming to roost. Not good.

Side note, did I understand correctly or completely wrong, Yosef raised 2.7mm this year? If that is correct, were we not at 3mm+ last year or the year before? That can't be good.

We don't need current donors to step up, we need additional donors. Less than 4% of alumni give back to athletics.

That is much less than UNCCH, NSCU, and ECU.

And I understand exactly what you're saying as well. My wife and I are both App Alum and I'm an App Football Alum. We gave to Yosef from my graduation in '92 up until 2010. Job changes forced my hand on that one but we should be able to start back up next year.

It would be great to hire a ST coach, but I honestly don't know of a college team in the state that has one. Maybe a USC or ND, but most FBS, including most P5 schools, use a Grad Ass or a couple of position coaches sharing the duties. It just puts more emphasis, time and brain power in the equation. Coach Moore used to work with them but it became more difficult to do through the years. The issue, as I see it, is what we have been doing isn't working and having someone dedicate some more time with it can do nothing but help.

Yes, actually, it was a simple comment about on the field play. Newsflash: Bobo isn't a good App State WR. He has been a non-factor at WR since he's been at App State. Why is it a crime to point that out? I didn't slander his character with a personal attack, criticize his effort and passion or call him names. I'm simply stating what anyone can see on the field. Not everyone can be a star.

Also, regarding your ridiculous comment about needing "attitude changes" and FCS guys not being "good enough" for FBS... I don't think the same thing about Malachi or Simms at WR. They've transitioned well into the Sun Belt as evident by their play every weekend and they are FCS guys. Do I still need an attitude adjustment? Is that how you define "constant demeaning"? Or could it be possibly be that Malachi and Simms are better WRs than Bobo???

I've rarely seen you post anything nonsensical and insulting but this is exactly that. I'm the players' #1 fan. I wish every guy on the team could excel at their position and contribute every Saturday. But if you can't have an objective discussion about on the field performance on a freaking message board, where can you have it?

Well my reply to AtlantaApp or AppinAtlanta was deleted but this thread is a loser. It's bad form to make a thread to bash a student athlete. Crybabies and whiners trying to save face because the fire Satterfield angle was a bust so after a huge win why not start a thread throwing a player under the bus. Pathetic.

So as long as we win we aren't allowed to question anything? Have you never had an opinion about a player and his abilities or lack there of? People have had opinions about Trey/Armanti, Patrick Blaylock, Sean Price, Zack Matics, Cadet/Pressley. Who decides who is free game to question and who doesn't? You? If you play Division 1 football you expect to get applauded when you play well and questioned when you make mistakes. Its a message board, this is exactly what message boards are for, discussion.

Question for you....who would you prefer was kicking FG's right now. Critcher or Matics? If you say Critcher Ill have to ask you why you think its ok Matics lose is starting job for a lack of production but Bobo can't. We are 120th in PR production. I am of the belief we could do better.

My feelings have always been that we don't call OUT our individual players for their play on the field (minus stupid plays such as fighting, cheap shots, out-of-line individual celebrations) - every young man out there has worked his butt off to get where he is - We don't know the play-call, each players assignment, who missed what signal, etc., - watch the best football players in the world on Sundays and you will see mistakes - WE DON'T ATTACK OUR OWN!!! ---

Seeing as though this is a public forum your more than welcome to that opinion. I am of the feeling when you under perform you try something else. By your rules Bobo is free game though. I consider reversing field 4 times and losing 15 yards on a PR a stupid play.

When you muff two punt, lose one of those, consistently can't get the corner and have a -15 yard return in which you attempted to reverse field 4 times on your resume that is almost the definition of under performing. I don't need to see the fumble or return 100x on film to know what it is.

Really, then you might be brighter than most coaches - I have spent hours on Saturdays and Sundays and watched tape of the Friday night game - Watched each play 20-25-35 times and sometimes we still didn't come away with what went wrong with that particular play - If he is underperforming so badly in your mind, here is the question - WHY IS HE STILL PLAYING??? - You know more than Coach Satterfield and his assistants? - who missed the blocks on the reverses? - who missed the blocks on the punt returns? - the guy has lost ONE fumble - are you kidding me??? --- WE DON'T DISS OUR OWN!!! - AND THAT FACT WILL NEVER CHANGE IN MY MIND - SO BE PREPARED ---

I respect that stance. App State fans should never slander, mock or disparage members our team when all they're doing is playing hard. We may disagree with what is appropriate when making observations based on what's happening on the field. But it should never be in disrespect.

I'll just say his returning needs work. He tries to force plays when they can't be made. The infamous 20 yard loss return was not the only bad return he made Saturday. There was at least 1 or 2 others that should have been fair caught that were not. I agree there has to be a reason he's still back there though. We'll know soon whether he learned from this past game.
