I agree with you - to a point...I'd rather give them the ball at the 35 (or whatever it would be if the rules have changed) than give up 7 and momentum. when punting - yes --- with kick-offs it is tricky because you absolutely don't want to kick it out of bounds and give them the ball on the 35 ---
The cure is to have sound kick coverage teams.
