After much debate I'm going with:

Edwards
Coakley
Settle
Hand
Lynch

I decided to go with Lynch over Hackett after looking back at all of Corey's accomplishments. He was a starter on all 3 NC teams, 2-Time All American, 2nd most INT's, most INT return yards, most total takeaways, 6th in career tackles (Hackett is 5th with only 14 more), 2nd most blocked kicks (most FG's blocked), FCS record for Passes Defended, College Sporting News DPOY, SoCon DPOY, and of course blocked the kick to beat Michigan. Also he should have won the Buchanan Award in 2007. All our SID had to do was vote for him 3rd out of the 3 finalist but he didn't vote at all!

Regarding the '04 loss to Western and UTC as well...my recollection was that those losses were squarely on the defense. Our freshmen corners couldn't stop a deep pass to save their lives and both of those teams had QB's capable of slinging the ball. Our offense in 04 was pretty strong. RW didn't run like AE, but I have to disagree about his ability to run the option.
The defense got the blame for the loss but until 5 min left in the game they played really well. During the melt down they gave up one really big pass play - actually a short pass and long run - for a TD and the 20 yd pass for the game winner with about 30 sec to go. They were almost the hero's after forcing a Western fumble at the one - recovered in the end zone - with a minute left. Unfortunately Richie fumbled 3 plays later at our 25 yard line and Western's scored 2 plays later. Richie was also picked off early in the 4th qtr leading to a Western's TD with 10 min left.

One small correction, The passing offense in '04 was strong - only 23 more pass attempts than rushes but over 2400 more passing yards than rushing yards. Richie did improve on running the option his Sr year but before his tendency was run the ball to about 5 yards of the boundary then pitch it.
