We've overhyped GWebb and UNCCH (I know I did after watching the SC game) this season and are likely underestimating ECU (I hope everyone is right here!).
UNCCH is a solid team, probably third or fourth best in the ACC.

Mack is wrong and respectfully your take is weak. Football and athletics is about being better than your opponent and improving yourself. Shying away from adversity is soft. Iron sharpens iron. Imagine you telling your child "We only do easy things in this family. The hard stuff is not for us"appgrad95&97 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 1:50 pmSay what you want, but he's not wrong. They won the game and fell four spots. You can't really think Colorado is better than Carolina, yet they are now ranked lower. I can't stand Carolina, but I won't blame there coach for looking after there program. We need to get to the point where they go UP after beating us.

UNC is a talented team but not nearly as good as the media makes them out to be. Honestly they and most of the ACC would not escape our schedule without a loss.

I've said for years that there really doesn't need to be any ranking in college football until after 6 games. I know it's part of the deal but seriously every single year some team (this year it's Colorado) is the media darling until they come back to earth. I heard last night that the Colorado V Colorado State game is going to be on national television.

You know, the same could be said by Kirby Smart or Nick Saban.
KS, "UGA has no benefit to playing North Carolina. Everybody EXPECTS Georgia to win this game, there is no upside for us. North Carolina has nothing to lose and there is no pressure on them to win. If we lose we hurt our opportunity to get into CFP. Let other teams from Georgia, like Tech and Georgia Southern play them."
Is this how all the SEC and BIG10 are going to start treating ACC and all non-P2 schools? This is where it is going and Mack Brown, as much as I have liked him in the past, is being very disrespectful and condescending with that statement.

In the business/sales world it sure wouldn't work. "I would go after that account but if they say no it will make me look like I don't know how to sell. I will just stay with this account we already have." The ACC needs us on their schedule for SOS. The BIG and SEC do not.AtlAppMan wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 10:14 amYou know, the same could be said by Kirby Smart or Nick Saban.

I have to agree with those who are saying that they interpreted this comment as a joke....at least mostly. I think Mack is probably genuinely relieved that the series is over. Mack has a history of supporting App and actively assisting through participation in App fund raisers.
Frankly, I think the comments about "nothing to gain" are him pandering to his spoiled, entitled fan base. It sucks but he's playing PR games. I can't really blame him. I don't think he intends disrespect, but I do understand it feels that way
That said, I remember when we were FCS and the Wake AD said basically the same thing. App fans gave him credit for being honest enought to say it. I know things are a bit different now, but for now the ACC is still a "power" conference and he has to manage public perception.

I took it as a joke and I hate UNC more than anyone here. Besides that, I don’t recall, has Mack said the same about Charlotte? They have them on the schedule. His take should also apply to them. If he hasn't, that tells me he’s just afraid of us and not Charlotte.

Didn't want to start a new thread. Liked the respect we got from the author:
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/unc-f ... aa8f&ei=57
Here's our section:
Chapter 1, The Statement Games Start
Week 1: South Carolina in Charlotte (W 31-17)
Week 2: App St at Home (W 40-34 2OT)
Week 3: Minnesota at Home (W 31-13)
Week 4: At Pitt (W 41-24)
Now, the App game might have been more survival than statement, but I think anybody in the state of North Carolina (or Michigan or even Texas) could tell you that when you schedule App State, you’re gonna have problems. Otherwise, Carolina has had few issues staying undefeated, so we can appreciate the Heels’ body of work as a whole.

Just looked at that article. I had no idea what an easy schedule they had this year. Miami and maybe Clemson (fi they improve) are really the only tough outs on the remaining schedule for UNC. I guess some will say Duke but I haven't joined that bandwagon and just don't think they are really that good.

Although it pains me to say this more than you will know, Dook is a pretty good team. It may not show for the next few weeks if the QB is out for a period due to the ankle injury. Their D has been very good with considering they have played ND and Clemson who are typically top 25 teams..... cannot believe I am typing this about Dook....what is the world coming too.t4pizza wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 1:52 pmJust looked at that article. So, I will end with... they are still scared to play App. St.!!

I know what they have done so far this year, I am just never really impressed with ND and Clemson hasn't looked good at all this year. That is why I really can't consider them a good team yet.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:27 pmAlthough it pains me to say this more than you will know, Dook is a pretty good team. They understand the programs are equal and we can kick their tail. Understand doesn’t mean you communicate it. Better for them to play an easy win from a fan perspective.

I think they’re good. I think we’re good we just haven’t pulled it all together yet. Maybe youth, maybe coaching probably both .I’ll be curious how we play Coastal this week. They honestly don’t look very good. We will see.t4pizza wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 5:12 pmI know what they have done so far this year, I am just never really impressed with ND and Clemson hasn't looked good at all this year. Re: UNC, App State delivered another thriller — proving why it’s a series worth continuing
Just last week I heard a former UNC B-ball player say that Coach Smith didn’t play lower tier in state teams because there was nothing to gain for UNC. The comment was made during a discussion about how former President Trump and current President Biden aren’t, or at least don’t look like they are going to participate in any debates. The former UNC B-ball player was saying that just like UNC has nothing to gain from playing lower tier NC schools, Trump and Biden have nothing to gain by participating in the debates. I almost immediately thought, UNC isn’t here for itself, UNC and all the NC public universities are her for the benefit of the people of NC. So if it benefits the people of NC to have the NC universities play each other on a regular basis then they should do just that. I for one think it does benefit the people of NC.
