Re: Construction
One possibility is that they're leaving room for a small grassy area between the seating and the playing field. Something like the new building at UNC or I believe Georgia Southern has something similar as well.

I can't stop looking at the endzone camera. I knew the the new field house was going to be large but it looks huge. Maybe it's the angle?

It's huge...something like 94,000 sq ft? Seems like a big number but I heard that somewhere...boonegoons89 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 9:06 amI can't stop looking at the endzone camera. I knew the the new field house was going to be large but it looks huge. Maybe it's the angle?

Re: Construction
Yeah, and it's hard to tell how far out the bleacher seats will extend away from the building based on how the steel structures are going up. I'm really not good at visualizing that type of thing.appstategrad2008 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 3:29 pmOne possibility is that they're leaving room for a small grassy area between the seating and the playing field. Re: Construction
I've thought the same - I'd really like to be on the field and see how big it looks from ground level. It's going to be at least 50-60 feet tall, which is hard to visualize sometimes, I guess.boonegoons89 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 9:06 amI can't stop looking at the endzone camera. Re: Construction
Maybe we are keeping our options open to start playing Canadian Football with how far the seats are from the field.

Re: Construction
I think they're going to be closer than we realize, especially once the construction is done. The building looks far away now, but 10 rows of "loge" seating will take up a significant amount of space. I don't think they're going to be right on the field, a la Montana (Wa Griz), but they also hopefully won't be 30 yards away.

Re: Construction
It will be a lot closer than most are realizing here. Can we let it come together before we start complaining lol? Also, if you take a look at others around the country with actual facilities like this in the EZ, it just seats, it’s not right up on the edge of the EZ. Can’t answer the why but it’s just something I’ve noticed.

I am guessing it's the slope. Gotta make sure fans are able to see everything on the field.Yosef10 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 1:19 pmIt will be a lot closer than most are realizing here. Re: Construction
Once the track is removed and turf is laid down in its place, I think it will add a nice touch to the field.
I’m more interested in that empty space that will be underneath the box seats. Memorial stadium at Illinois has a similar end zone layout where glass windows line the field level area of the end zone before seats take over above that. Obviously a lot larger than ours but as mentioned earlier in the thread, I think that will be an easy way to add more seats in the future if they indeed leave that area open. But I guess that depends on how far (vertically) those box seats get to the field.

Re: Construction
This may be done on purpose to provide a little extra practice room for the players. We are probably one of the few FBS teams that actually practices every day on the stadium field. Most teams have two separate fields for practice. It has to be challenging to fit 100 plus players into our stadium for practice.

Re: Construction
Also - take a look at the virtual tour on mountaineerimpact.com. You can view from the club seats and see that if those are right on top of the field, then spectators in those seats won't be able to see the endzone (or possibly even inside the 20). That would be a pretty terrible experience for people who are paying a nice chunk of change for seats.

Re: Construction
Walking by it last weekend it struck me how much wider the footprint will be than the old building. It is barely off of the west entrance walkway. Its gonna be really loud in there next year with that end closed up with that huge structure!boonegoons89 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 9:06 amI can't stop looking at the endzone camera. Once we get all four sides surrounded by seats, KBS will be one of the most hostile places in all of college football.Appster99 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 24, 2019 6:54 pmWalking by it last weekend it struck me how much wider the footprint will be than the old building. It already is one of the toughest place for an away team to win a game and has been for a really long time. We always protect the ROCK!

Re: Construction
I don't mind having a buffer for players to slow down out of the back of the endzone if for no other reason than safety. Some places might as well be arena football with walls a yard behind the back line. I think that once the building is in place it will, by virtue of scale, make the area behind the endzone look smaller than it does now without the building.
