Gold helmets this week

Are the slots on these helmets designed for air circulation / cooling, or is that part of the shock absorption design to allow more "give?"

I believe they are new "shock absorbers" - ones over the last couple of years have had a panel in the front crown area and I had heard that new ones would have front, top and back - First time I have seen a picture of one ---

The stripe is just the first part of the design. Fully expect a decal on the side.

The ghost lettering was on the whiteout helmets last year. No one knew it though because you can't see it from more than three feet away.

They're pretty obviously teasing some sort of new decal. The fact that they haven't showed it yet doesn't mean it won't be there; it means it probably won't be one of the standard block A's.

Keep the logo simple and traditional. Even willing to go with black versus my favorite white block A for the yellow helmets, just because it would look better.

The panels do look a little strange but that's just because they pop on a gold helmet.

That said, all for better player safety. The single front panel helmets caught on pretty quickly. These will too.

A bunch of teams have started doing this. Off of the top of my head both TCU and UNC-CHeat added these this year, as well as some other teams I can't think of right now.

If you check ESPN's Uni Watch or CBS.com on uniform changes they list all changes even if it is as small as the shadow lettering on the helmets - Yes, several teams have gone to this ---

Much to my surprise, the uniforms actually looked really sharp in person. And I know the younger kids were pumped to be wearing them. You've also got to think the fact that they were discussed on ESPN prior to Gameday (talking head discussing a mannequin decked out in the uni) has the potential to get some recruits excited as well.

That Uni is the closest yet to old gold. I loved the outfit.
