Re: Taylor Lamb
Loved the way Marcus and Keenan Gilchrist went to Easter and started "pepping him up", that kid had to be nervous as hell and our leaders acknowledged this and took control. We will be missing some great leadership next season, but will have others returning to fill their void!!!

I don't know if they mentioned it on the broad cast, but looking at the box score, I see Woodside had 247 passing and 2 TD, but -1 rushing (on 3 attempts). Taylor had 119 passing (1 TD) and 128 rushing (and another TD). So total numbers: Woodside 246, 2 TD; Taylor 245, 2 TD.
Sounds pretty even to me. And I love the toughness Taylor showed.
I also noticed on the Toledo board that one of their fans said something like "Their QB needs to learn how to slide." Well, sir, he knows how, but last night he was pure grit and playing for all the marbles. Kudos to Lamb.

Re: Taylor Lamb
Taylor literally had a gut check moment, and came out shining. Very proud of and for him. He deserved the MVP by a ton.bcoach wrote:When they put him on the table and started checking his abdomen with the stethoscope I thought he was out. You are right about leadership.hapapp wrote:The kid was throwing up on the sidelines and the trainers had him on trainers table checking his stomach to make sure a serious injury wasn't a result from the punishment he was receiving. Easter warmed up during the timeout and appeared to be ready to take over. Taylor insisted he was fine, went to the sideline huddle, assured the staff he was and then proceeded to march the team down the field and scored a TD. It's called leadership. Any doubt that this team looks to him to lead?

Re: Taylor Lamb
I think that is an overstatement. You can probably go back and look through the threads (I have neither the time nor desire) and find something. I do not recall and benching call, i do remember conversations on Arm-strength and holding the ball too long, taking a sack.WVAPPeer wrote:Well if I remember correctly we had posters here on MMB who wanted him benched - now explain to me how that is an objective discussion of his abilities - Let's face it - we have some on here who are totally inept at being objective ---
See thats my issue, maybe one person mentions that, then the whole group is calling for it. No discern for the overall conversation just a few words in the middle is what get the publicity, then snide comments months later.
The kid played a hell of a game, he manages well, plays to his strengths well and puts people in good positions.

I would like to see what his numbers would have been if some very easy catches would have been made. Again not an NFL arm but better than his numbers showed.appchicago wrote:I don't know if they mentioned it on the broad cast, but looking at the box score, I see Woodside had 247 passing and 2 TD, but -1 rushing (on 3 attempts). Yep and I think I have always agreed with the same assessments as yours - these idiots who call for firings and benchings and question a player's desire/intent/effort - whatever, need to be held accountable for these stupid comments even if there is only one, AND I WILL CONTINUE TO POINT THEM OUT --- so you can call me the Leader of the Sunshine Group all you want - I take it a badge of pride!!!

Re: Taylor Lamb
A lot of us are calling out our wide outs for dropping a number of passes during the game which is very true. Just keep in mind that no team runs for nearly 300 yards in a game without the wide receivers making LOTS of downfield blocks. They are a young group and will get better as the maximum effort shows.
As for Lamb, great decisions led to great results.

Re: Taylor Lamb
This is true. I have watched Meadors (who I am sure would love to see more balls thrown his way) do a great job blocking down field on long runs. Still think it was a bs hold on him on the Cox TD against Miami.SpeedkingATL wrote:A lot of us are calling out our wide outs for dropping a number of passes during the game which is very true. Re: Taylor Lamb
No doubt they have done some nice blocking but that is a different issue. They need to be catching the easy ones. They should not need much more coaching to catch the easy ones. The real issue with me though was not to ridicule the WRs but to point out that Taylor was really better than his stats.SpeedkingATL wrote:A lot of us are calling out our wide outs for dropping a number of passes during the game which is very true. Re: Taylor Lamb
Taylor played a great game, got us the win and earned the MVP. I said earlier in the year that TL's diminshed passing stats this year were the result of the new group of receivers and not an indictment of his abilities. It is clear that our receivers drop too many passes, often appear to run the wrong route based on where the ball was thrown and, with the exception of Meadors, dont seem to give our qb or coaches a warm fuzzy that they will make the play when needed. TL may not be the most complete or perfect qb but when he is paired with quality receivers that do their job, he gets it done. Im not sure of the record for App qb win totals but I would bet he ends up in the top of the pack. I would take him anyday, weak arm or not.

Re: Taylor Lamb
I love watching this dude play. May not have a super strong arm but he's still super effective. One thing I noticed about him more than Saturday is that he has balls of steel. He was running well and had a ton of passes dropped, but he didn't start running as a crutch. Time and time again he would hang in the pocket till the very last second, knowing he was about to get popped but he hung in there and delivered strike after strike not worrying about the possibility of a drop or not. I still say that if it weren't for Armanti, we would be much more grateful for TL. We're never going to have another Armanti, but TL is still a very talented QB that has won a TON of games for us.

Re: Taylor Lamb
We went through a streak of some incredibly gifted athletic QB's. Richie Williams, Armanti Edwards, Deondre Presley, Jamal Jackson, Cadet even played QB some before TL came into the picture. I'll never forget the most amazing play I witnessed Armanti complete and that was against Samford, where he scrambled to avoid a sack, fumbled the ball, retrieved his own fumble and just before getting sacked completed a pass. I'll never forget that.
Taylor is never going to have these type of traits but in some instances he possesses more valuable skills for a QB. Smarts, good ball control, good decision making, incredible leadership ability. I think we were wowed soo many times with the previous QB's its easy to not value what Taylor brings to the table.

Re: Taylor Lamb
With some talk about Lamb having worse numbers this year and such I thought I'd compare. After looking at his three years his stats for this year stack up pretty well with his first two in most areas. As we saw Saturday one big issue we had was dropped passes, but even with that his completion percentage was UP this year over last. His yardage was slightly down, but most of that could have been accounted for with the drops in just the bowl game. His TD's came down a good bit this year, but we also ran for many more TD's than last so some of that may be scheme.
2016: 2,281 yards 60.6% comp 15 TD 8 INT
2015: 2,387 yards 60.1% comp 31 TD 9 INT
2014: 2,381 yards 61.4% comp 17 TD 9 INT

63 TD in 3 years. WOW!

Have to look at the more analytical stats to see the difference:JTApps1 wrote:With some talk about Lamb having worse numbers this year and such I thought I'd compare. 2015: 8.44 YPA, 160.7 QBR
2014: 8.07 YPA, 142.1 QBR
Also I believe the jet sweeps were mostly a new wrinkle this year, which were de facto running plays that helped pad his yardage, completion% and TD totals a bit.
With that said, I typically don't think college players just get worse without an injury being involved. I don't know what's behind the drop in numbers, but I would guess some of it is being slow to develop the comfort with his new WRs the way he did with the previous group. Some may also be on playcalling. It's never just one thing. I'd be surprised if we don't see a bounce back year (statistically speaking) from Lamb next year.

Re: Taylor Lamb
Last years QBR was inflated with all of the TD passes many of which went to TE's. For some reason we barely threw to the TE's this year, and that wasn't due to drop off in talent/experience like we had with WR. Not saying there wasn't some difference, but I still don't think Lamb was the cause.

Re: Taylor Lamb
I think TL has been a wonderful QB for us(we have been spoiled over the years). He is the quintessential "coach's son"; high FB iq, a gamer, a guy that finds ways to win. With that being said I have two objective observations that are not to be meant as slights but rather constructive criticism. First he has to be better with the play clock, sometimes it appears to catch him off guard and we either take a delay of game or a play gets forced. Second is not so much him but play calling; I believe with our athletes all over the field and how consistent our run game is we should run more play action/read options. TL is more than capable of making those reads, refer back to "coach's son". To me that would be a better use of our guys while sticking to our bread and butter which is running the rock. Again this is not a slight against TL just a couple of things he/play caller can improve on so our O can take that next step.

Re: Taylor Lamb
I'm definitely impressed with TL, we're lucky to have him for another year. As for the future, I sat beside a guy at the game in Montgomery Saturday and he was from Reidsville originally and he said that the QB for the Reidsville team that just won the state title (not sure of the division) and I think they were undefeated for the season, has committed to App but I don't recall seeing anything. The guy said he's a great player. I think his name was Tanner?
