I promise you the players love the music, so the statement about how no one in the stadium wants to hear it is just ridiculous because the players and students love the rap music. It gets them amped up and excited. They're not playing music for you, they are playing it for the players. The team is winning a lot right now, shut up about the music please

Actually you are wrong. The atmosphere was dead yesterday. There was not one APP- STATE chant. The 4 second canned blurbs of music comptletely take the crowd out of the games.

I did tell them about playing Mountain Music and that has been remedied. The guy doing the canned music is in his first season here and didn't know about it.

They do want to listen to the fans. They will listen.

So you killed Mountain Music. That's a shame. Always thought that was something that uniquely fit Appalachian.

What's the issue with Mountain Music?

App is in the mountains...we occasionally float down and beat the Cajuns in their hideaway, and our first bowl win was in Alabama. Perfect fit.

The canned music needs to stop pre snap, and what's up with playing it during the entrance of the BOD when they make their entrance into the stadium! When the band enters, it's the battle of the band and the canned music. To me, the band's entrance is impressive and a tradition! Why they drown it out with canned music is beyond me. Not smart or impressive in my opinion, and it comes off as bush league! After the first home game, I thought that surely these things would get corrected.

Obviously that doesn't happen anymore (since this year?) but goes with the pattern that App has a tough time hanging onto tradition. Every homecoming game there used to be a small group of former MM play along side the main band.

Side note - Anyone remember when the band would actually march down Rivers St and up Stadium Drive to enter the field. I thought that was always cool.

If you really pay attention you can see things slowly but surely dispersing. Look over at the wall in front of the stands that was freshly painted this year. Notice anything missing? It just looks to me like those in administration who are new to APP are removing all that they can that was APP prior to their arrival.

Okay, I'm going to bring this up since I haven't.

After the Georgia State game, I sent an e-mail to Gillin about the music and other things such as student attendance at basketball games. He responded back and after some correspondence, we set up a meeting for Thursday the 6th with the head of promotions and Brian Tracy.

I met with them and we talked about an hour. Tracy brought up that they have continual correspondence with the band about when they play and when they play canned music. They believe in having no dead air and want something playing when there's no action. I don't agree with them on that, but that's their opinion. They also feel like the band isn't heard well by the entire stadium and are looking into speakers on the sidelines just for the band like Tennessee does.

I can understand not wanting dead air, but sometimes the way they play music takes the crowd out of the game. The atmosphere reminds me of a Panther game and that is not a compliment. Every time fans try to make some noise some random clip of a song starts playing over top of them and kills the fan interaction. Yesterday it didn't matter as the crowd was dead from the start, but in other games it has taken the crowd out of the game.

They weren't playing it early in the season, now they are. I'd say he brought it back instead of killed it.

?? If it's the "wall of honor" or whatever you wanna call it you're talking about, you'd have to admit that was a terrible location to honor our past greats. Absolutely terrible. Could you elaborate on the rest please?

There have been many e-mails sent to the athletic department so it is very obvious they don't care what we think. They are very happy looking like they don't have a clue.

Perhaps they're getting more feedback that people like it? I don't know, but I don't think it's "obvious they don't care what we think."

As to the rap music, I'm a fan, but there's better rap music than what they play! My 4-year old son enjoyed all of the music though, canned and the BOD.

I think you misread his comment. He told them to play "Mountain Music," and they did. He said the new guys controlling the canned music didn't know it was a thing.

Just posted this somewhere else, but it seems more appropriate here:

I never commented on the music before and won't do it again after this. I read in another post by someone who has been around a long time that you DO have to take care of those who most love your program. Those older donors need to be heard as well. I know the players and SOME of the students like the piped in music, but it seems like enough don't. We never piped in music when I was there and the student sections got it up following along with the band . . . and the players fed off that. No recruit is going to turn down APP because we don't have piped in music playing at the wrong time during the game . . . and maybe the band can keep the students more engaged than the choppy mess we have now. Lets try tradition for a while and see if we can get the crowd working with the band and maximize the home field advantage. I am no SEC honk, but have seen enough games to know they go with their band and it sounds great. Big donors pay the bills . . . don't just blow them off because they are older. No one is asking for anything that the most successful conference in America isn't doing.

If the players truly love the music and it gets them amped up, why not compromise and allow it during pre-game, time-outs, and prior to kick offs after our fight song following scores? I swear it is so incredibly annoying to try to get up for a play when the sound guy is playing his personal game of trying to stop the music right at the time of the snap. It's worse than fingernails on a chalkboard because it's EVERY FREAKING PLAY. I'll probably just start wearing ear buds and listening to the radio call while watching the game.

Let the band play, that is why the students in the band choose to attend App to carry on the great tradition of The Band of Distinction. We have two great groups of students, football team and band. Let's promote them instead of canned music.
