Re: Recruiting, 2015
One of our top targets-LB Dezmin Reed (6′ 2″ 220) of Georgia Military College (JUCO) in Milledgeville, GA just announced he's committing to App. I will have him moved to the commits section in a few minutes. Beat out Colorado and South Alabama, among others. Welcome to the Mountaineer Family.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Nice, should be an immediate contributor and another Atlanta kid. From an overall roster perspective, as a juco he also provides some class balance to help keep us from getting overloaded with freshmen and sophs.
Anyone know how much eligibility he'll have left? I'm guessing he'll be a junior, but not sure.
I'm a little surprised we'd look to add a juco at LB only because we already have four guys in the 2-deep at those spots who will be juniors next year (Townes, Gilchrist, Law, Thomas). Hopefully that's a sign that the staff sees Reed as a "best available" or "too good to pass up" type talent.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
He'll have two years left and word is he can play either inside or out. He's up to 230 so I need to change my board. He's got speed enough to play outside and size enough to pound the middle. From all I've heard this guy is a player. We will find room for him without a doubt.EastHallApp wrote:Nice, should be an immediate contributor and another Atlanta kid. Don't forget McGowan is a senior at ILB so there will be a spot open next year.EastHallApp wrote:Nice, should be an immediate contributor and another Atlanta kid. Re: Recruiting, 2015
From internet reports LB Devontrea Tyler (6′ 2″ 238) of DeSoto County High School in Arcadia, FL/Iowa Central Community College (JUCO) in Fort Dodge, IA. A player page with video has been added to the Main Page. The Rivals 3 star ILB is showing additional reported offers from Bowling Green, Idaho, and South Alabama.

Possible commit. I'll know more in a few minutes. Just a heads up.

EDIT: (99% sure on the commit but until I get confirmation from either the staff or the player I'm not going to post it. This is just what I do and Mike over at 24/7 is waiting just as I am. Already have the post typed up, just waiting for the text or DM.)

Re: Recruiting, 2015
We have our sixth commit for 2015. LB Akeem Davis (6′ 2″ 200) of Thomasville High School in Thomasville, NC gave his verbal commit this morning. I have moved him to the Commits section on the Main Page. Even though he's not been rated by most sites yet (Rivals lists him as a 2 star) his list of reported offers includes Ball State, Boston College, Elon, Furman, Ga. Sou, Miami (OH), ODU, UNCC and Western Carolina. Sorry I took so long to post it but I really wanted to get confirmation since he's showing a BC offer and his father is a coach at Ball St. With the team practicing it took a bit.
And Yes this is an In State commit.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Looks to be a great in-state grab if we're able to hold onto him! I did notice that Florida State seemed to have him on their radar earlier this summer. Hopefully they won't come in at the last minute with an offer.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Real sorry. With him being an NC recruit and, as I said above, having reported offers from a BCS school and an FBS school where his dad is I really wanted 100% confirmation before I posted. I only put the quoted post up so others who might be seeing tweets would know I was on it. He has been one of our top targets at ILB also. Sorry about the "commit tease".ASUPATCH wrote:firemoose wrote:Possible commit. I'll know more in a few minutes. Just a heads up.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
We've got to face this with everyone right now. It's why I laugh so much at the Ark. St. and the other Belt teams fans with 15-20 commits gloating right now. All one has to do is look back at last year and see that most of them lost their early commits when the big boys came calling. Many of theirs have only a couple of current offers. Most of ours have more. We're as solid as we can be at this point with ours. But just for a little comparison I've got a full listing of the top 7 Belt teams commits right now. I'll check back on signing day and see how many stayed committed.JonW wrote:Looks to be a great in-state grab if we're able to hold onto him! Re: Recruiting, 2015
Nice, good pickup with a solid offer list.
Now, I don't know where it's reported that FSU was interested, but I think that's getting a little carried away. Davis might get an offer from Duke or somebody like that, but FSU recruits in another stratosphere.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Agree that FSU goes after very high level players (I did see a tweet this morning saying that FSU had talked to him but I couldn't find it again just now) but while I was waiting I took a look at his followers on twitter. In addition to coaches from all the offer schools I listed, including BC, he was also being followed by coaches from Iowa St. UNC, Miami, WVU, and wait for it....FSU. He can follow anyone he wants but coaches don't usually follow recruits unless they want to communicate with them through DM. Take it for what it's worth. And BTW, pretty much the entire Ga Sou staff is following him. He's already been there for his visit. The commit might sting our buddies a little.EastHallApp wrote:Nice, good pickup with a solid offer list.

Alright! Back to back commits with P5 offers. The staff continues to do an outstanding job on the recruiting trail!

Re: Recruiting, 2015
One of FSU's assistants, Jay Graham, visited him earlier this year. This is per the player's profile on the 24/7 Sports website. So I'm not sure how much truth that holds. FSU never extended an offer, just listed a visit by Jay Graham.EastHallApp wrote:Nice, good pickup with a solid offer list.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
Let me clarify - I don't think it's likely FSU will actually offer him and steal him away from us. They may well have at least contacted him, and if so, that speaks well for his ability and potential.

Re: Recruiting, 2015
The local TV station was on for once at my house and I heard them mention this. I think it was Channel 8 in High Point that was on, which neighbors Thomasville. It showed a few seconds of footage and mentioned App State.firemoose wrote:We have our sixth commit for 2015. This kid hangs out at one of my co-workers house. He and her daughter are good friends. I hear he knocks the living crap out of players. Once he gets to 235 or so, he will really knocks some heads off.

Go pick-up. Have coached against him through out his high school days. Stated that App was close to home and liked that due to family being able to see him play more often. Think he will stay with us.

The Lexington Dispatch has published a good story on Davis' commitment:
