Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion

I am not a fan of wearing white at home. Thus, my email to Doug Gillin regarding same. However, I have always wondered how all white (helmets, pants, jerseys , shoes) would look on the road. I see Texas in there all white and think it is a really good look, but still think it should be all black at home. I will wear white for the players.

I just don't believe that something that is meant to be fan engagement warrants such an outcry. This whole notion of we only wear black on Saturday isn't real. I see plenty of white and gold in the stands each Saturday. I've seen other jersey colors wore at home other than black.

Fan engagement requires that the fans be engaged, not enraged. I don't think they meant to do it, but this promotion alienates as many fans as it engages.

I know quite a few here are very upset about it but is it really worth all the angst? Does it really alienate fansor is this just another aggravation of the changing face of college athletics? Will they stop coming to games because one game the players want a white out? I dislike immensely the constant uniform changes but in the end I'm going with the flow. Players like it and after all it's the product on the field I come to see. I might hazard a guess than many who are upset also decried our leaving the SoCon? Have opinions folks and respect those of others.

Nobody is going to stop coming due to the white out for one game, but fans/alumni have the right to express their dislike for an idea. Thanks goodness fans spoke up about Blowself at Auburn or we might have had to look at that thing for a few seasons. The athletic department has to come up with new ideas, but sometimes ideas aren't any good. When they get it wrong in a big way they need to listen to the alumni.

To me this is just an overplayed copy cat idea, and I don't see why we would want to copy other schools when we have our own Black Saturday tradition. If anything we should use that more often not just one game a year.

Your guess about people mad over the whiteout being SoCon supporters is off base. Everyone I know that doesn't like the white out idea was a big proponent of moving to FBS.

Very much in favor of FBS, even increased my contribution to Yosef Club out of pure satisfaction and excitement. Not in favor of White-Out.

An ODU buddy of mine says that it's possible they could wear all black for the game.

I don't remember us using a black jersey since we've been with Under Armour. We had one with Nike and they were ugly as hell in my opinion. It could be something new for this year. My guess is all navy if you guys wear white.

Well I guess I really blew it with this post. See I have been denying that VT ever happened. I say to my Tech friends that it was some dream they had. I tell them we never played them. I'm up for wearing anything GOLD, BLACK, or WHITE during Septemeber when the weather is warm. When the weather turns, the only way people are going to wear something other than Black is if it's a free shirt laying on their seat. Mine included. That's how the NBA teams get their fans to wear certain colors, and it's the only way we would get it to happen. It's really not that hard to find a couple of sponsors to pay for a theme shirt. I have gotten sponsors to do it for the local high school on multiple occasions. Especially a white shirt, you're talking about a $6 per shirt cost. Harris teeter and Pepsi would gladly sponsor the first 10,000 fans I nto the game...done! Next!

Is anyone going to offer any white AppState gear for the game? I have searched for t-shirts and polos online and have not been impressed with what is available. If you are going to have a white out, you at least need to offer the merchandise.

Only a small joke. I assumed those that had their feathers ruffled over which color shirt to wear to the game would have a problem with the team straying from the status-quo of black helmets as well. Glad to see there hasn't been a colossal outcry.
