Or just add seating. But I hear you. Only thing is, I'm not sure how many have lotteries versus just charging for tickets. I went to grad school at Ohio State, and I don't believe they had a lottery, they just sold students tickets at a discounted price.Yosef10 wrote:Gonzo is right on for the time being. There's clearly not enough demand from those who are not students. Once we can fill the stadium and not have 10k students present to do so then we can start treating this as a business and having a lottery for student tickets just like every other major football school in the country. Until then let em all in.

Folks, whether you like it or not, it is inevitable. I am not personally saying to significantly reduce the student seating area, in fact it should be quite significant in size/numbers of seats. However, we will have to make a decision that there are only xx seats "reserved" for student seating and the rest will be sold as GA or reserved seating. Yes, Yes, Yes, it will happen if we continue to grow and attract more fans. Some level of limited supply vs demand is a good thing.

Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
I know the athletic department is committed to getting as many students in the game for Miami as want to come. I would imagine they'll be sending out an email to the students just as soon as possible so that students can plan ahead. Having the ability to email through the App system to all students in a blast email gets the information directly from the athletic department to the students without having to go through rumor mills and message boards. Those of you who are parents of students can pass along with your students hear.
Remember that the students are often getting those guests tickets for younger siblings and parents. So it's not just the friend of a friend of a friend. Often times it's a younger sibling who might be looking to go to school exactly where a big brother or big sister is going. If there are guest tickets to be had the athletic department will certainly communicate that. I would seriously doubt the availability of such for the Miami game.

Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
My daughter and more so my wife and I will be paying for this years athletic scholarships for many years through the loans we are taking out, just as has been the case for the last two years. And after interest is added in, I don't really want to think about the total cost to be honest. I don't begrudge the athletic fees, though I don't want them going any higher to be honest.AtlAppMan wrote:Folks, whether you like it or not, it is inevitable. With that said, I would help lead a revolt to stop any student fees being assessed for athletics if students can't get free tickets to any and all athletic events they chose to attend. Either the students get free tickets or students should not be fronting the majority or for that matter any of the costs. Students don't have a say in the fees in the sense of paying the fees or not, beyond just not attending App State, and that is not really an option. If students could optionally pay the fee then luck of the draw could prevail. But this fee is not an option so students should put them at the front of the line for at least GA admission with free tickets.
I know this is all hypothetical, and I trust the decision makers at App State to treat the students with some level of fairness and respect as it relates to athletic tickets. But if that policy were to change there better be a change in the fee structure as well.
Guest tickets are another thing-though I still think a lottery of a few tickets for Student Yosef Club members would be a nice way to attract student to join SYC-which is optional, unlike athletic fees. (For disclosure my daughter is in SYC, though I don't need any tickets for Miami as I snagged two for the wife and myself.)
This is my very generic signature added to each post.

Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
During my time at Appalachian I discussed with the "then" marketing director at the school a way to increase student attendance at other events. I am a recent graduate.
It was to reward students who joined SYC and attended sporting events around campus not just football. For instance the top 250-500 students would get better (priority) seats guaranteed than the other students. I believe that would be a great way to get students involved with SYC & eventually the Yosef Club. It would also boost attendance at other sporting events.
Instead the then marketing director handed me a poster and thanked me for my time. He stated it would not be fair to the other students.

From what I have seen the last few years, aside from the Miami's, wake's, and ecu's we have plenty of capacity for everyone. Until sell outs become more regular, I think we are good. I do agree that any student should be able to get into any sporting event. Not as concerned about friend/family tix.

In 2007 there was a point system for students at fall sporting events. 1 for football, 2 for volleyball, 3 for field hockey and such. If you got something like 15 points, you got reserved front row tickets for the National Championship. That's how I didn't have to wait in line for those tixs.
Next year that program was scrapped.

Yea. I graduated in 09 (If you couldn't tell from the username haha) and I remember what you're talking about with the points system. I was upset to see the points system go for I too went to a lot of other sports games. Went to just about every basketball game.T-Dog wrote:In 2007 there was a point system for students at fall sporting events. 1 for football, 2 for volleyball, 3 for field hockey and such. It truly is a damn shame. I remember when I was in school the basketball team would walk around to market and promote themselves. Not a bad technique, but seemed like it was the only technique. Football is the cash cow, however I don't think the success of football alone will get us to an even better conference in the future.AppDawg wrote:Why does this not suprise me.Goapps15 wrote:During my time at Appalachian I discussed with the "then" marketing director at the school a way to increase student attendance at other events. Could you imagine being a recruit for basketball and taking an official visit and seeing how empty Holmes is most weeks for games? It's a major turn off.

Re: Source: No Student Guest Tickets Available For...
It probably was the only one they had. Since we have had "professional" marketing people in 2000-2001, most non-football sports have gotten the shaft, or more fitting a mention on the next to last page of the paper. Back before this, we had people in charge that knew how to hustle and get the most out of limited resources. Look at ASN, David Jackson took it from where it was we he took over as a grad student and built a network that bigger schools would be proud of (please don't get me started on IMG/ISP and how David was treated in latter years). There used to be table cards put out and signs, not yard signs or sandwich boards, but 7' by 3' signs that told everyone when games were and where. These were put out at times not by interns or student workers, but by Assist. AD's. The Mountaineer Maniacs would/could have made the jump to the HCC if the "professional" marketing person hadn't neglected them and let them die./\PP ST/\TE GRAD 09 wrote: It truly is a damn shame. We need to have a 4 headed beast in marketing if we want to move up/forward.
Head 1 - Corporate (IMG/ISP)
Head 2 - Football/Yosef Club
Head 3 - Other Revenue Sports (Basketballs, Baseball, Wrestling, Volleyball(at some point)
Head 4 - Other Sports/Areas
** End Rant **
That's what I do. I gripe and I know things.
