we're among some pretty good company...sandwiched between Southern Cal and Boise St. I'll take it.
Football rankings are sometimes funny/funky because USC beat ARK ST 55-6 and ARK ST beat APP 40-27

You can't deny UNC had a good team and that they would more than likely whip us. Also it sounds stupid to keep saying we are the best team in the state. Record means nothing because we didn't play the schedule Others did although we could beat State Wake and ECU. Charlotte doesn't even figure in this conversation.

So if we are ahead of Boise State, does that mean we finally have become "the next Boise State?"

My bad. I just missed it in my haste to celebrate!

And, not to put too fine a point on my earlier posts, BUT, I did not say our football team was the best in the state. I said our football team had the best season overall. I stand by my statement with my Kentucky flintlock by my side and my jug in my hand! Bring on the real goat    boys in blue!

I listen to Sturg occasionally and now will listen more often. Pull that APP flag high on his show. :D

Scott Hamilton Winston Salem Journal (one of the voters) had App at 24 on his final ballot!

Also don't really understand San Diego State getting so many more votes than us. Some of that is probably due to the margin of their bowl win, but I think a lot is just people giving the Mountain West extra credit for past years.
Homerism aside, I get it. They technically had a worse season than us (11-3 vs our 11-2), but they were undefeated in their conference, won their conference championship against a solid Air Force team, finished well ahead of us in the Sagarin ratings (#45 vs #60), had convincing wins over solid conference opponents (Nevada, Colorado State), and smashed the heck out of Cincy in their bowl. And while Cincy may not have been as good as Ohio, they are a more visible program from a stronger conference-- a conference that had a great year in 2015. And while we sputtered more toward the end of the season, SDSU got their losses out of the way early, going 1-3 to start. But once October rolled around, it was straight dubs for them from there on out.

SDSU's strength of schedule could have been better, but was it any worse than ours? And it's true that we did have two common opponents, but those games don't tell us a whole lot. They beat Wyoming soundly (as did we) and played a close one with South Alabama (as did we). In the end, our respective games vs USA had identical scores, only they lost in overtime while we squeaked one out.

So all of that is to say, if I'm a voter and I'm looking for a solid G5 team to pop into my #24 or #25 spot, I can see how I might go SDSU over App. Might be a coin toss to decide between the two, but it makes sense to me.

Only it wasn't a coin toss to voters - they outpolled us 44-7 in AP, 73-9 with the coaches. That's my point - no reason for that kind of disparity other than people have heard of them and respect their league, even when it's having a down year.

Their P5 losses were blowouts to very middle-of-the-road teams (Cal and Penn State). And they didn't even have to play Boise St. in conference play. And, close or not, they lost to USA at home; we beat them on the road.

Otherwise, you make plenty of good points, and certainly SDSU had a very good season. I just don't think it was markedly better than ours. (Or better than ours at all, actually.)

Well, it'd be a coin toss to ME, but I'm a homer or I wouldn't be on this board. :)

And you make good points. I just think we're still chipping away at the hard outer shells of national sports writers. MWC and SDSU get the nod over App and the Sun Belt now, but all we can do is keep winning and slowly change those minds.
