Re: Almost a sellout!!
Our first allotment was 4000 per DJ. As has been discussed, the bowl financing is a model of " don't bankrupt the schools"... The Sunbelt pays all travel and other expenses PLUS pays each school $250k as well as each school gets 50% of sold tickets. This is significantly better system than in the past as well light years ahead FCS playoffs.

AppFan11 "Sold" is defined as ALL tickets (25K) and not just the ones allotted per school yes? I think that's were some understanding of things, is getting lost in translation....

Alright now, you clearly misunderstood the point of my post. I am all about the positives of being FBS and how crazy it is that we had a 10 win season and made a bowl in our first year. I didn't need your help with that. Moving on, my post was in reference to the small allotment of tickets that they gave us. I am focusedon the national stage. Bigger and better bowls down the road, after we have proven ourselves on the field, will care about attendance. I just figured they would have given us, and expected us to sell, more than that. Maybe its a blessing, maybe we can't actually get 7K-10K down there. I'd hate to believe that's really true though. Anyone know how many we had down in Chatty by the '07 NC?

Re: Almost a sellout!!
I just looked and the attendance for last year's Camellia Bowl is listed at just over 20,000. Now there can be a big difference between attendance and ticket sales, but selling 22,500 with over a week to go is a pretty good sign.

Your post said you were not impressed by our ticket sales and the allotment. Sounded to me like you needed some encouraging. Anyway, my guess is we had 12k to 15k in Chatty in 2007. My guess is we'll have 8k to 10k next weekend.

Re: Almost a sellout!!
Last year's Camellia Bowl had a lot of strikes against it. It was a brand new bowl (though with an old name), and it matched up a 6-6 SB team with a 7-6 MAC team. I think that if South Alabama hadn't been one of the teams in, they'd have pulled way less than 20k.
And it turned out to be a pretty good game! USA scored to take the lead with 1:20 left, then Bowling Green scored 14 seconds later on a 78 yard reception to get back on top.
I hope it's packed to the gills and that our boys play well. Finishing 11-2 would be icing.

Re: Almost a sellout!!
Here's a pic from the 2014 Camellia Bowl. Now it was the inaugural bowl, and they had South Alabama playing Bowling Green, but there's still aluminum showing especially on the BG side. I know we can do better. Let's Go Apps! Let's Pack the Rock "South".
GIVE 'EM HELL APPS!
Re: Almost a sellout!!
I expect that ASU will have a fair number of fans who purchase tickets directly from the bowl. I fully expect over 6,000 App fans in Montgomery. Great to hear that our game is approaching a sellout. Should be an electric atmosphere where we make a good first impression with the bowls. I can't wait!

Re: Almost a sellout!!
City of Montgomery and RayCom need to update stadium lighting. The dim lighting meets "basic" telecast specs, I'm sure, but "basic" shows in a hurry. No intent to slam. Glad we're playing--just constructive feedback based on watching last year's game. I'm sure they've heard this concern expressed a thousand times over...

Re: Almost a sellout!!
My guess (and this only seems logical, so someone back me up if I'm right) is the bowl committee initially allots a team (in our case) a relatively small number of tickets...4,000. If we sell them out, great they send more, and if that sells out (and there are some left) they either sell them as walk up or give the schools involved another small allotment. It creates a supply scarcity to increase demand: "Hurry up and get yours, we only have 4,000".

Re: Almost a sellout!!
I agree but would add that the bowl folks may keep some so THEY can keep selling them as well.

Re: Almost a sellout!!
My best guess would be NOT all 25k but only 50% of what the school sells. I can't see why the bowl would give away that profit. I could be wrong for sure but I would be surprised.WXAPP wrote:AppFan11 "Sold" is defined as ALL tickets (25K) and not just the ones allotted per school yes? Seeing how the locals don't really have a local NCAA FBS-level team in the vicnity, they will probably jump at the chance to see some in their backyard.

Can't do much better than selling all they give you on the first go around.
Bet the sponsors will remember in the future if it comes down to a choice

Re: Almost a sellout!!
This came out this time last year.....ticket sales must be not so great.....
No word about us selling out our allotment. There was a bigger push on here last year to buy tickets. Maybe we should do that again since there seems to be a lot of noise taking away from bowl talk.
