Can't beat Orlando for a first bowl experience. Great for the team, coaches and families, and fans!

If my info on other thread is correct regarding payout... The Cure Bowl pays $1,350,000 per team, almost doubling Go Daddy payout.

New Orleans all the way. I would not mind the cure bowl except for the crappy TV coverage. CBSSN, come on, every other game is on a major channel.

That is the one big drawback for the Cure. Hopefully they get on ESPN or at least Fox in future years.AppOrange wrote:New Orleans all the way. I would not mind the cure bowl except for the crappy TV coverage. CBSSN, come on, every other game is on a major channel.

1.) Cure
2.) NO
Really haven't lost anything, anywhere in 'bama I need or want to go look for unless it's our only choice.

From RDU, Orlando is a 1 hour flight on SWA. So, I'm down with that.

Re: POLL: Which Bowl would be your 1st choice?
Sadly, I doubt I will be able to attend any of them since I will be at a work conference in Dallas during three of the four, so I chose based on which would be best competitively for the program. I suspect that would will be the GoDaddy Bowl versus the the MAC #1 or 2. While it is also the only one I might be able to attend, it is certainly at an inconvenient time most fans.
Montgomery is the easiest drive for most of our fans so I think it would be well attended, Orlando would be second using those criteria though the destination might be a bigger draw for many. I hear Mobile puts on a good event and is a really nice place to visit.

My hunch is that if one more team gets eligible (we'll say USA), then we're headed to Montgomery. If only 3 SBC teams are eligible I think we'll be stuck with Mobile.

This was my thought before the season, but keep in mind we'd likely be playing a 6-6 team, and possibly one with little name value like Tulsa (though yes, ECU would also be very much in play if they can beat Cincy this week).Appmanrcb wrote:Personally I'd prefer the Cure based on matchup with AAC. Re: POLL: Which Bowl would be your 1st choice?
A name holds a lot of value in this game. Records not withstanding, an ECU or Cincinnati for example are better names than Toledo or Bowling Green. Hypothetically speaking, 5 years from now no one will remember that App beat a 6-6 ECU in a bowl game, just that we beat ECU. Beating that name matters more than you know for recruiting. It says "we're better than them...at least until the next time we play eachother" and could even spark a regular rivalry. So, selfishly I want the better name regardless of record.
Same with this "U"pcoming TBA game next season. On the Stink message board many argued (to make themselves feel better about it) that because Bowling Green has a better record this year they're a higher quality home opponent...while in the microcosm of this season yes that's true, the "other" team has an infinitely better name. And that's what's important.

Re: POLL: Which Bowl would be your 1st choice?
Playing ECU is almost a no win situation. I don't completely disagree with your statement that "years from now people will only remember that we beat ECU". If we play them and beat them people will say that they were not very good this year. If we play them and, heaven forbid, lose to them we will hear the obvious. I have seen bits and pieces of a few of their game and I have not been impressed. I think we are definitely stronger. I tend to agree that the name recognition might carry a little more weight. I vote for the Cure Bowl if for no other reason the location would offer more for the players. They are the ones who are rewarded. I don't think a bowl in Alabama offers any kind of upside.APPdiesel wrote:A name holds a lot of value in this game. Re: POLL: Which Bowl would be your 1st choice?
Very true. Being in Raleigh, the hour long flight on southwest is a huge draw lol. And I think it would go farther with helping strengthen our footprint in Florida. Plus being a part of the fight against cancer is pretty cool.EastHallApp wrote:This was my thought before the season, but keep in mind we'd likely be playing a 6-6 team, and possibly one with little name value like Tulsa (though yes, ECU would also be very much in play if they can beat Cincy this week).Appmanrcb wrote:Personally I'd prefer the Cure based on matchup with AAC. I do still think the Cure is an appealing option for sure. I'm hoping once they're a little more established, they might move up the pecking order for both the Sun Belt and AAC.

Re: POLL: Which Bowl would be your 1st choice?
It seems the overwhelming majority seem to prefer Orlando. Someone please educate me as to why? The opponent more than likely will not be the best. I do understand ECU being attractive and Cinci offers a name but any other 6-6 AAC is a yawner for me. Not to say they are bad teams I just really would like at least an 8 win team especially if we end up 10-2. Finally, I would just as soon be shot as go to one of those amusement parks around the holidays.
Mobile offers the chance to play a conference champion and is a great coastal southern city. Can you imagine the food. Date is at least closer to Christmas after which people start paying attention.
Montgomery is a short drive and I bet would be the best attended even though opinion suggests Orlando. If I can hop in my car and be there in 5 hours I am more likely to go than if I am looking at flying or driving 8 or 9 hours. I have been to Montgomery, some history and not terrible but Mobile seems more attractive to me.
NOLA is NOLA and if we could get maybe La Tech or So. Miss that would be a good opportunity.
All that said Mobile is where I hope we end up only because I think N.O. is not happening. I am undecided on going to any but as I said Montgomery would be the one I could do last minute.

All fair points, but I'm guessing a big answer to your question is that a lot of people would prefer Disney World to getting shot.appbio91 wrote:It seems the overwhelming majority seem to prefer Orlando. Other factors would be warmer weather and the chance to play/attend in a newly renovated, nationally recognized 65,000 seat stadium.

I thought about that for NOLA. But Go Daddy is a more established bowl and again you get a conference champion. Go to Disney on your own time
I don't want a six win team for our first bowl.

How does Sun Belt handle the bowl money for the teams?
