I haven't seen the production, but if it got better as the broadcast went on, then I am encouraged. It sounds like a matter of the students learning to trust what they have learned in their classes, rather than they not knowing what they were doing. We probably should have had a practice game (at Watauga High School, perhaps) before we went live. The improvement between this one and the next will be enormous.clayton wrote:It did get better.
At some point, they figured out replays. The actual video quality got better, too.
The guys in the booth were great and so were the university promos.
The amount of university promos was weird. I don't think I saw a real commercial for something else until halftime. There were also audio only ads at times.
We've got to sell this product better.

Re: Television broadcast
Not sure that it ever got better. The quality of the shot from high was terrible. Looked like a first generation cell phone-quality video that buffered slightly. Had people watching with me, kept laughing at that. Little embarrassing, actually.

It's amazing to me how great the quality of the football hype videos are yet the App State TV broadcasts are so lacking.

Re: Television broadcast
I watched the archive on ESPN3 and noticed a good bit of buffering, but the production quality was much better than the live video on the local channel. I guess the biggest issues with TV timeouts and such were limited to local stations.App91 wrote:Not sure that it ever got better. The quality of the shot from high was terrible. Re: Television broadcast
I have been meaning to ask-
We we going to continue to produce our own game for ESPN3 to carry or will they be stepping in to do the heavy lifting?
Was having the Howard game on OTA TV a one and done for the year? Why did ESPN allow that if they have the contract to carry the game?

Re: Television broadcast
I was at the game and after all the discussion I finally sat down to watch the game on DVR. I recorded the game because I wanted to see what it all looked like off the mountain.
Agree with everyone about the first half video and production quality. Seems the high angle camera was poor quality or had an issue with the sun exposure.
Overall, it was good to see on regional TV and hope for a better broadcast next time!

Re: Television broadcast
I wonder if the local stations that picked the game up even made a profit off of showing it. Didn't see many commercials other than the ones promoting APP students etc. Those commercials may not be very interesting to the casual college football viewer that may not be an App fan but just wanted to watch a game.

Re: Television broadcast
In the case of the Triad it was on 12.2 subchannel. I assumed we paid for the block of time almost like an informercial and IMG sold what ads they could sell to cover the cost of the air time we purchased from WXII. Maybe it was a bit of both, we guarantee some min $ to WXII even if we don't sell an ad, and then the stations and App splits some ad revenue above that. I can't speak for Channel 18 in Charlotte but I don't think 12.2 MeTV showing what it shows is packing in the audience anyway if we were not on the air.appfanjj wrote:I wonder if the local stations that picked the game up even made a profit off of showing it. I did all I could to make sure the TV ratings were up during the game. I'll leave it at that.

Re: Television broadcast
Several of my co-workers here in Charlotte told me they watched part of our game. None of them are App grads so to me it was worth whatever it may have cost us to air the game.

Considering we don't have the staff and equipment that sports networks have, the coverage was good on WCCB in Charlotte.McLeansvilleAppFan wrote:In the case of the Triad it was on 12.2 subchannel.
