I am now going to go back to all the video I have of football games that show Peacock on the sideline holding up signs or directing the band and putting a big black box over his image. How dare he.NavyApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 1:16 pmAt my Freshman Convocation in 2006, then Chancellor Peacock openly admitted that he mispronounced the name of our school quite a bit until someone politely corrected him. Does that make him a terrible person as well?NewApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 12:52 pmGood, valid points, but you aren't chancellor of our university and making big bucks for being so. The point is McLean, this board breaks out in holy hell when an announcer or opposing coach or opposing administrator says it the wrong way.

Re: Announcers
It is clearly a case of "I can talk about my momma, but you can't." Yes our staff should get it right 100% of the time, but I will give them a pass for an honest mistake, because they are family. If an announcer disrespects us, then there should be holy hell to pay. It seems very consistent and logical to me.

Makes no sense at all. Why should we expect someone who has never set foot in our stadium, arena, campus etc to get it right or face holy hell but not our own employee(s)? Or are you being sarcastic? Remember in the northern part of the Appalachian mountains, they are called App a lay shun by their locals, Same with Concord, NC as opposed to Concord,NH. Neither is correct or incorrect. Depends on where you are or relate to. When I was in school in PA, App was always called Appalayshun. They were correct for there, we are correct for here.
As I said before, I don't give a big crap what they call us as long as it isn't Appy State as Kricket used to say or Crappalachian like the Elon folks called us.

Re: Announcers
Maybe for the mountain range either is correct, but that is absolutely not the case for the school. The school specifically states how the name is to be pronounced. Maybe someone doesn't know that, so they get one time free, but after they are told they should pronounce it correctly. The chancellor got one. If she gets it wrong again she goes on the naughty list.NewApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 4:56 pmMcLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 4:11 pmIt is clearly a case of "I can talk about my momma, but you can't." Most of my posts are sarcastic I thought. Or maybe you are being sarcastic in mentioning my posts are not sarcastic. Now I am confused.NewApp wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 6:59 pmi couldn't tell, because i've never read anything sarcastic from you before...or very seldomMcLeansvilleAppFan wrote: ↑Wed Dec 23, 2020 6:08 pmIrony or sarcasm. It'll be 0K. A glass or three of egg nog from the Teeter with a couple jiggers of rum and you'll be fine. Merry Christmas Eve Eve.
