Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
I want you all to know, I mean no disrespect to the person who wrote the article. It just seems that the internet has that name labeled as the name of our rivalry. The article itself is EXCELLENT and I read it a couple of times a year tbh haha

Yosef's march to the sea.
But I don't think we can get a great rivalry name as there isn't anything geographically iconic between us or historically iconic.

Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
We don't have anything geographically or historical which would make for a good rivalry name. If you had some sort of trophy to fight over that would probably make it a lot easier (Battle for the Paddle suddenly takes relevance) but DG has made it clear that they haven't been pursuing some sort of rivalry trophy. Which is sad because yeah, what we and stink have was the Michigan/Ohio State of the FCS, especially as the championships began to pile up and Western's program started to fall off.
As goofy as it sounds, we should really *sigh* venture over to the GaSo message boards and get their feedback, maybe they have some ideas. I mean, even a broken clock is right twice a day right?
Honestly with me, I'd be perfectly fine with just resurrecting the Battle for the Old Mountain Jug. Get a new one of course, and paint it black and blue. Moonshine's a big part of Georgia's history too, and a ceramic, hand-crafted jug is a step up from that cheap, plastic Save-A-Lot milk jugs they're used to toting around there.

I don't know, I kind of feel like we're going to leave Ga Southern behind like we did Western Carolina, and prior to them, Lenoir Rhyne I believe used to be a big rivalry. They got lucky last year with their win but we've pretty much been their daddy for years now...there ya go...the "Father's Day Fight"

The App/Southern matchup is 3-2 in favor of App Since joining the SBC. Closer than you think.Rick83 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 5:10 amI don't know, I kind of feel like we're going to leave Ga Southern behind like we did Western Carolina, and prior to them, Lenoir Rhyne I believe used to be a big rivalry. Perhaps, last 15 years we lead 11-4, to stay a relevant rivalry they do need to win occasionally. I feel like the two programs are on different trajectories though.FTE_rawr wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 7:14 amThe App/Southern matchup is 3-2 in favor of App Since joining the SBC. Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
11-4 is getting the better of them, but it’s not so lopsided that it isn’t a rivalry anymore. It does seem like we’re continuing to rise while they’ve faltered, but it’s too early to say whether either or both are long-term trends.Rick83 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 7:38 amPerhaps, last 15 years we lead 11-4, to stay a relevant rivalry they do need to win occasionally. BTW in that same 15-year span, Ohio State is 14-1 vs. Michigan, but I doubt many would argue that’s not a rivalry anymore.

Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
11-4 and the games are rarely run-aways. Trajectories might be different at the moment but GS will be back. The primary thing we have in common is that both programs have a winning culture. Neither will tolerate losing for long...or mediocrity for that matter. App has benefited from more stability in our coaching and leadership but we are officially in a new era. It will be an interesting ride!

Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
I still will hate Ga Southern but I just don't see their program keeping up with where DG is taking us. He's in the process of turning us into the premier G5 program in the country. I think the rivalry will stay heated for a while at least and last year's fluke loss certainly has me fired up about this year's game...but long term...I just don't think they'll keep up.

All it takes is one coaching change on either side to make a big difference in the series. BVG showed how easily a once powerful team can slide into oblivion.

Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
As long as we are conference mates this will be a relevant rivalry. They will right the ship and become competitive again. And couldn't ask for a better group to hate. Such easy targets. On this one i'm in the "who cares what everyone else thinks" camp. It's hate week when we play GS. Those gumroots don't deserve anything more than that.
Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
Guys, it is my fervent hope and prayer that we hang 75 points on them Iggles on Halloween on ESPN, and that we pitch a shutout. All in favor signify by saying Aye. This could be too much fun.

Big ol AYE from me!
As far as regular season games go, that Halloween game against Wofford was in my top 5 moments at the Rock. If we can duplicate the results on the field, all Id be missing is being able to eat dinner next to Coach Moore at Huddle House later that night.

Aye Aye, sir! We need to punish and embarrass them on national TV. Hope Drink keeps his foot on the gas and chooses not to eat up the clock.

Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
They were not as prepared as we were, and they have been treading water since they fired Sewak. I suspect Ga State has the edge on them now, and we will never again see as heated a rivalry as we had back when it was us, them, or the vermin.Rick83 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2019 8:20 amI still will hate Ga Southern but I just don't see their program keeping up with where DG is taking us. Edited to add: TV making this a mid-week game of late is not helping stoke the fire.

Re: Halloween is coming - about the GS rivalry
I don't mind Deeper Than Hate either. It's got kinda that old school football feel like Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate. I do wish this game had a rivalry trophy to go with it though. Something goofy like a paddle or something like that. It gives the whole rivalry that old school feel, or at least it does for me, and I love that.

Has anyone mentioned that a Georgia Southern freshman Offensive lineman died yesterday? Don't know any details.
