Crabtree is easily 30 minutes from Kenan, maybe 40. 440 to 40 all the way to 501 or 54....

Yeah, I was thinking more along the airport side where I usually stay. Crabtree mall is a little bit further down the road. I actually booked an el cheapo room at the Days Inn by Crabtree for Saturday night. Hoping it’s just a place to crash after celebrating a victory. Good eating options etc by Crabtree.

I'll be going to the event at the Marriott. Keeping it close to home before heading to Chapel Hill Public Safety Lot with Rams Clubbers Saturday morning.

I lived in Morrisville and around South Point Mall for 3 of the past 5 years. Staying in Crabtree when there are hotel options around South Point is surprising. Forgot what the hotel off of Fayetteville, across from South Point is called but that's nice as well. Then you have the hotel behind Target off of 751 behind South Point and that would put you within going Stage Coach to 54 to get to Chapel Hole.appstatealum wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 10:07 amYeah, I was thinking more along the airport side where I usually stay. I just have nightmares, especially my last year there (now in Greensboro). Traffic on weekdays now backs up at 3:00 PM instead of 4:30 PM on 40 heading to Raleigh from Durham and it really is turning into a nightmare. Has taken me more than an hour to get to Crabtree from South Point. Nevermind getting on 440 at 4:30 PM.
Weekend should be better but its still a 40 minute drive. Wondering if this didn't have something to do with Drinkwitz since Crabtree is literally 4 exits down 440 from the Fairgrounds (Hillsborough Rd) exit.

Re: Friday Night in Chapel Hill
I think it mostly has to do with marketing. The Crabtree Marriott markets heavily to sports teams coming to the area and truly is a full service hotel. And maybe the Ath. Dept. prefers Marriott. Also have to remember that Ball State is coming in to play NC State and has to stay somewhere. May be other teams coming to area too. I think getting the team as far from Chapel Hill as possible is a good idea. Team buses will likely have a law enforcement escort to Kenan and traffic is not usually terrible on a Saturday morning on 440/40.

Perhaps. But It's literally as far from Crabtree to Kenan as it is, almost, from Burlington to Kenan. Does the program get rewards points, discounts, or sponsorship's for hotel choices?goapps93 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 10:19 amI think it mostly has to do with marketing. I don't think Burlington or Chapel Hill has a hotel capable of providing the services needed by a football program our size. Hotels like the Crabtree Marriott are in the business of marketing to large groups like athletic programs. The team did stay in Burlington in 1993 for the A&T game when I was a manager but our program has changed immensely since then. The Crabtree Marriott is much more appropriate than the Burlington Best Western.ericsaid wrote: ↑Fri Sep 20, 2019 11:00 amPerhaps. Re: Friday Night in Chapel Hill
I think the Marriott thing will be pretty tame. It's set for 6:30-8:30 at a hotel lounge; you could easily meet up and chat with some App folks there and then head to Chapel Hill (or Durham, or downtown Raleigh) for your later-night activities.
