Re: U Miss FCS?
Judy Rose got one over on Charlie Cobb, and expended a ton of capital with ChyphenUSA schools to do so. Capital her school hasn't been able to deliver on, nor does it look like she/they will be able to deliver on anytime soon. I highly doubt she will be able to do the same to Doug Gillin.

I was for FBS when they talked about back when I was a student in the mid 90s, and Ive been for it ever since. Don't miss it at all.

I do admit I miss the playoffs, but have enjoyed better competition and haven't looked back. Right move, liked it from the get go. I wasn't a fan of being a big fish in a small pond. Now that we're a small fish in a bigger pond, let's get after it!

Re: U Miss FCS?
I had mixed emotions about the move at the time but would not go back. The schedules, especially the home schedules the last couple of years have been the best ever and wouldn't be possible in FCS. The bowl games have been a great experience too (of course so were the NC games). I also believe that we are getting many recruits now that wouldn't have played at an FCS program. I'm also happy that GaSo made the move with us as that is too good a rivalry to lose. With the move we are re-upping potential rivalries with ECU and Wake that were active when I was at App in the mid 70's.

EmperorEagle wrote:My question is do you miss FCS or is FBS at the G5 level your cup to tea? I have raised this issue on the GS board with mixed results. As for me, I miss the FCS days. Sure, initially it was fun, but even if we had success every year, I would select FCS. Let's face it, with the money at the top of FBS, schools like GS and App can never win it all. I miss the the rivalry with FCS as it was more fun for many reasons to me. I wish we all would follow Idaho and drop back to FCS. Please share your thoughts. Thanks.
So, I suppose you also also miss the TAAC? And playing football in front of the hundreds at Wofford?

Playing in front of 30,000 at home against Wake Forest does sound better than hundreds at Wofford, no doubt.

Nope. I supported the move from the beginning. In G5, we are among our peers. In 2017, we have far more in common with schools like Georgia Southern, Troy, and Arkansas State than we do with Wofford and Furman.EmperorEagle wrote:do you miss FCS?
Also: the Tar Heels will be playing in Boone, North Carolina. Full stop.

Re: U Miss FCS?
I started at App in the fall of 2010 and I couldn't be more happy with the move up to FBS. Sports are a pretty big deal to me and was actually a pretty big factor in where I went to college but the scenery of the mountains and App's campus in general just won me over, so I decided to settle on the dominance of FCS for App's football team.

Re: U Miss FCS?
Don't miss it at all. I was always in favor of the move for a number of reasons. The past 2+ years have been all I dreamed of and more. I do wish our conference was more compact to build more rivalries, but that is really the only slight complaint I have.
I thought I would still follow FCS some, but it seems non-existent for the most part. The G5 isn't getting a ton of pub, but it is miles better than FCS.

I was ready the week after we beat Michigan and played Lenoir Rhyne at home the next week. Don't miss it a bit.

Guys it is possible to "miss something" AND "not want to go back" !!! - I miss West Virginia, I don't want to go back to live there - Things change --- I just wonder about some who "don't miss it at all" - IT WAS ONE HELL OF A RIDE FOR THOSE CHAMPIONSHIP YEARS ---

Re: U Miss FCS?
Those were good times within the context of where we were. It was cool being a powerhouse at that level but at the same time very few people knew what FCS was. I'm sure many of us can't count the number of times we had to tell people that App wasn't Division 2. Do I "miss" FCS. Nope. Was it cool winning playoff games and championship games? Yep. Have I ever looked back and wondered if we made a wrong decision? Not a chance.
