Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
If we were 12-0 and had beaten Tenn and Miami (both ranked in the top 10) and Troy who made it into the top 25 we would have a much better argument that WMU does ---

If it happens that WMU gets shut out, i wonder of Steinbacher will push for a WMU-App bowl game? He grew up in Boone.

Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
Sorry got to call BS on this, if we had gone 12-0 this year with a win @ UTk and vs. Miami it would have happened just as it would have happened if we had beaten Clemson last year. WMU beat a 6-6 NW and 3-9 Illinois team, huge difference. It depends on the resume, just like the Marshall example they didn't play any top 25 teams that year.WVAPPeer wrote:Just like I told you last year Saint - APP wasn't going to the NY6 even if we had been 12-0 --- just not going to happen to "lowest tier" (not my words nor my thinking) G5 conference ---
Edit looks like your next post confirms my first sentence.

Yep 12-0 with a win over Clemson...
You can't make an absolute statement like APP wasn't going to the NY6 even if we had been 12-0 --- just not going to happen to "lowest tier" (not my words nor my thinking) G5 conference. Not all 12-0 resumes are equal.

I think Saint is right that you can't say it in absolutes like that, but WV is right that most teams from the Sun Belt/CUSA/MAC face an uphill climb. It's not impossible, but if it's close between someone like us or WMU and someone like Boise State or Navy, it's probably going to go to the bigger name.

Wow - that is great --- I know many sports fans have the Army-Navy game on bucket lists --- I am sure it will be inspiring - My dad took me to a Navy game (not Army) when I was 10-12 so we could watch the Midshipmen march in - I remember it clearly to this day some 50+ years later ---eggers76 wrote:I'm going to the Army-Navy game this year in Baltimore. I'm really looking forward to the game and all the pre-game pagentry.
If you could post some pictures on here that would be fantastic !!!

Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
I think that it has less to do with the name and more with which one (WMU or Navy) would sell the most tickets. If the committee wants Navy in tge NY6 game then they need Alabama to destroy Florida and either Okla. or Okla. St. to destroy the other so that they can justify dropping them down and moving Navy up the two spots needed to be the higher ranked team.

Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
If we had beaten UT it would have been called a huge upset and all of the Michigan references would have been flying around. Little App St beats an SEC power!! If Houston or Boise beats the same caliber of opponent it's just another story. We ain't got the street cred yet. I agree, if we had gone 12-0 last year we still probably don't play in the big bowl.EastHallApp wrote:I think Saint is right that you can't say it in absolutes like that, but WV is right that most teams from the Sun Belt/CUSA/MAC face an uphill climb. We probably need to figure out how to outright win the Sunbelt first. Before we get too excited.

Yes, we would have a better case than WMU - but my quote was referring to last year ---ah59396 wrote:If we had gone 12-0 with wins over Miami and Tennessee, we would be going to the NY6 bowl. Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
Whoops! Would have been a little tougher for sure. But 12-0 with a win over Clemson would have been pretty strong.WVAPPeer wrote:Yes, we would have a better case than WMU - but my quote was referring to last year ---ah59396 wrote:If we had gone 12-0 with wins over Miami and Tennessee, we would be going to the NY6 bowl. Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
If we had beaten Clemson and if they bounced back and continued with an otherwise undefeated season then maybe. Had we beaten them they would have nose dived in the rankings and would have had to claw their way back to the top. We would have remained on people's lips for a while at least. Too many different things could have happened. If we had beaten both UT and the U both would obviously have another loss and at this point neither would be in the top 35.ah59396 wrote:Whoops! I'm pretty sure that we have that figured out but we just didn't do it. We were within about a minute of accomplishing that goal though.ah59396 wrote:We probably need to figure out how to outright win the Sunbelt first. Before we get too excited.

Re: What if Western Michigan is bypassed?
This Ohio team looks better than the one we played last year. Funny if Ohio wins this game it will be yet another example of a CCG costing a conference $$$.
A WMU loss here really screws up the bowl outlook.
