We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

To me the athletes had all last night to give their opinion then all of a sudden after people began to get emails saying the athletes wanted it they all started tweeting at the same time.... I call BS, I don't care who wanted it, still doesn't make it a good idea.

Tell you what: Go tweet on AppNation that you dont care who wanted it and that you think it's BS.... Theb get close to Jon Law Marcus Cox and Parker Collins and tell them in person. I was against it until the TEAM said they wanted it.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
Sure, the Heroes Game was about more than the colors, but the color aspect received the exactly the same amount of promotion as Stripe the Stadium in 2014, Rock the Gold in 2015, and now this WhiteOut. All were very "low-key" in advertising. The only reason the WhiteOut has appeared as an undesirable "push" is because of people on this board who are quite militantly opposed to white. Aside from the "color game" graphic released today and a few white shirts in the bookstore, I doubt we'll be seeing much promotion of the color game.EastHallApp wrote: the [Heroes Day] push was more low-key
Pink-Day, oddly enough, seems to have flown under the radar entirely. I'm eager to see members of the MMB dressed up in their pinks for that one.

You type as if I tell them that they will get physical...if they wana join join a list of players that get kicked off then sure. I don't care who came up with it it can still be a dumb idea. The point of my post is that all last night players were on Twitter and didn't anything then all of a sudden the athletic Dept comes out and says they wanted it... Then it's almost like everyone got on Twitter interacting with fans. If the athletic Dept wanted to give the football players their moment they should have had them let Appnation know first and get everybody excited not try and use them to save face.Rekdiver wrote:Tell you what: Go tweet on AppNation that you dont care who wanted it and that you think it's BS.... 3rd has a point here. And speaking for myself I'd tell them in person. No problem.3rd wrote:You type as if I tell them that they will get physical...if they wana join join a list of players that get kicked off then sure. If my man Marcus wants me to wear white, I'll wear white. Once. But he owes me another 1000 yards for it and I expect payment by the end of the season.

Love how Kendall Lamm responded to Collins, calling the whiteout lame.
This was a coordinated response from the admins and certain players. "Well if the players are for it, we should be." I'm not gonna give up on tradition that easily.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
It does seem fishy that no player had any comment until after fans had begun to show their displeasure.
Assuming that they did want it, what happens when they want a green out or a purple out?
It makes it a little more palatable if we believe the players want it, but it doesn't make it any better of an idea.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
An idea is dumb or it isn't. Its origination doesn't change it.
Is it easier to stomach knowing players want it too vs the admins? Obviously for some on MMB.
My concern is if this 100% originated from the players, what request would the ADept reject? What if the players wanted to replace Black Saturday with Gold Sayurday one year bc they were undefeated or something? Does it happen because players want it? If not, why? Because Black Saturday is a tradition? Well isn't wearing black and gold on the field and in the stands also a tradition?
What if players want to replace the third down bell with a canon blast or rapper lil Jon screaming "THIRD DOWN FOR WHAT?!" like they do in Knoxville? Does it happen? If not, why?
No one appreciates the players, coaches and trainers more than me. Period. They work harder than any group on campus. But no one (group or individual) is above the program or Mountaineer tradition.
Is this request from the players the end of the world? Absolutely not. I only ask what requests are absolutely off limits if wearing black and gold at home isn't?

When I hear whiteout I think Penn State, not App State. When I hear Black Saturday, I think App State. That's our tradition.

To the players. I love you guys. I am wearing black. Always have. Always will. I also love our heroes . I wore black. I am not really into color days and all that. If people want to do that kind of thing knock yourself out. I come to watch football and wear black.

I've said it often, and I'll say it again....Every Saturday is Black Saturday.
Even this one in May.

A white shirt would have felt a little better that Memorial Day Saturday at ECU! I used to have a white App knit so now I have a reason to buy a new one. I'll wear white to watch our boys slap around ODU. Go App!

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
I get it... A few players thought the white out would be cool.
I wonder if the players knew the tradition of black Saturday ?
If they knew the long standing tradition would they really want a white out?
Could it be that both the marketing department and players are so new that they don't even know about the tradition?
Do the players and marketing department care about tradition? Or is it all about them?
I have been a App State fan for 20 years, does that count?
I know I am an App State fan because of tradition of fans, players, and the university.
Something to think about App marketing admin.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
A "white out" is a trend today just like the black/gold stripe-it last year. It has nothing to do with disrespecting other traditions.
I have a white APP golf polo that I wear in early season games because I sit on sunny East side. I most likely will wear kaki shorts that day showing my milk-white old man legs, so if you are near the 212 - wear sunglasses.

Re: Athletics announced White Out for Old Dominion
It's crazy to see how much App State has changed since I have graduated in 2009. Some for the better, but most for the worst. Outside of Hi Hi Yikas playing, I feel not much tradition exists from when I was in school. We move to FBS level, and all of a sudden want to get fancy, however we have a terrible PR and marketing teams that plan, implement, and fails with attempts at trying to do cookie cutter stuff. What was wrong with the way things were? Why do we need to do all of this extra stuff? The tradition is slowly slipping away with all of these attempts to try new stuff. I am friends with many of the players from the "Glory Days", and many refuse to visit Boone for football games, because they feel the excitement and tradition of Appalachian State has dwindled away. Players like Kendall Lamm get it, because he was recruited by a man who really pushed Appalachian State traditions. Jerry Moore. I hate all of these changes. The Appalachian State my kids will know will be completely different than the Appalachian State I know. Sad, but likely true.
I knew there would be change when we moved up, however it seems as though too much is trying to be done at once. If you want to implement a new thing, you should slowly roll it out, not throw all these ideas out at once as they have over the past few years.
