Re: Coastal discussion
You might be on to something here. It's the revenge of the flying yosef from 1983...which was the only proper striping of an App State helmet.MrCraig wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 2:25 pmNO! You people have to understand that the curse of the helmet stripes is the most insidious of curses because it does NOT mean the team loses. It just means that the team plays poorly. The Troy hail mary last year involved helmet stripes, and no one will convince me that App wouldn't have won by 2 or more touchdowns had they not had helmet stripes.AppDub wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 1:22 pmBut we broke that curse last Saturday,...right?MrCraig wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 12:05 pmAs long as the middle of the helmet is free of striping, I don't care if the helmets are see-through.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 9:42 amClark's hoodie for this week is white with A on the chest patch ..black and gray....makes me think unis may be black helmets with the gray A on the sides..![]()

Re: Coastal discussion
That whole transition deal really is stupid. Is it because teams have to ramp up their roster sizes? With the free agent portal you can just restock your roster quickly.

Re: Coastal discussion
It was made post Marshall transition when they basically used transfers in a manner the NCAA didn't like, but now are "legal" in the transfer portal and NIL era.
This is a classic example of rules lagging acceptable and practiced behavior. But rules are rules unless you have the lawyers and governmental officials to change them.

Re: Coastal discussion
I believe the NCAA wanted to make transitioning up from FCS challenging so that schools wouldn't jump up and then drop back down. They wanted a commitment and for it to be a little painful to the programs making the jump to make them really think it through and be fully committed to making it work.

Coastal
APP -5
I do not like that line, should be higher..maybe -13.5.....I don't bet, but it scares me that it's too easy to lay the points.
Hope we don't have a point shaving scandal come to light... lol

Every year I see Coastal play and say "We should beat them" and it's never been easy. I'll take a 1 point win, but gosh they seem down this year when I've watched them play. We seem more than 5 points better. Ese Quam Verderi

Re: Coastal discussion
Chickens have nothing really on the line this week vs Appy -- this was a meaningful game in years past.
Coastal is having issues with this roster like Clark had with his holdovers last year and ended up 6-6. You can't keep unmotivated COVID kids around (Notre Dame and that Wake QB come to mind now with 2 losses) and expect them to do you right...kids are crappy man, they play for status instead of the love, they will let you lose if you don't stay on their tails. A Coaches job is too keep them in check.
#TeamClark with a 2 score win!!!
Jump all over that -5.5 line asap if you gamble, I know they will out there on the deck of the Boone Golf Club!!

Re: Coastal discussion
Public money movement, I like it when the line shifts in our favor on the open and shifts away the day before or of the game.

Re: Coastal discussion
If they remain FCS during transition, the post-season ban makes sense because they have more than the allowed number of scholarships. Thank Marshall for the transition year in FBS. It has to do with recruiting differences but seems like a lot of those differences have disappeared so that year doesn't make much sense to me.ASUTodd wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 7:12 amTransition years are just dumb... if they can win it, give it to them.Yosef84 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:53 amNope. Same as last year. I expect them to request a waiver again though. Honestly, I think they should be given a waiver. The 2 year wait was implemented on the assumption that a move up would have one non-eligible year in FCS as they built up their roster and then a year in FBS to continue the transition. With the special COVID eligibility rules, transfer portal and the fact they didn't do their lame duck FCS transition year, I see no reason they shouldn't be allowed to compete. I know others will probably disagree because it's JMU. LOLBlack Saturday wrote: ↑Fri Oct 06, 2023 5:11 amShould JMU win the regular season are they eligible for conference championship game?AppDub wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 8:37 pmThey aren't eligible per NCAA rules. Have to wait 2 years. Sunbelt has fallen in line with that too as they don't want their conference champion to be bowl ineligible. I hope they go undefeated and aren't able to go bowling. Then next year when they are eligible they go 0-12.Black Saturday wrote: ↑Wed Oct 04, 2023 2:35 pmOT, in anothe thread someone saying that JMU isn't eligible for conference title this season? Or i didn't get the sarcasm.
Anyway they looked pretty darned good and get upfield extremely well on Defense, and will be a tough out at Streamersville.
Maybe someone knows better than I do. Is there a difference in non-qualifier rules between FCS and FBS? Regardless, I don't think JMU does non-qualifiers so IMO they should be eligible.
