Georgia Southern vs Citadel

Unread post by spong » Mon Sep 14, 2015 6:29 pm

The Citadel is 2 and 0 after a nice conference win against Western Carolina. The Citadel looks confident going into ole 6-flags this weekend.

Georgia Southern just came off a very nice FBS home victory against a not very good Western Michigan team. Their triple option offense was completely shut down by West Virginia. I would say Liberty looked much better against unranked WV than GS. I'm just not sure Georgia Southern is the same team as last year.

Both teams run the triple option. They of-course have plenty of history together. I think this would be an easy game for Georgia Southern to over-look and end up being pretty compelling. Or GS could just blow them out and move on with life.

Anyway, Citadel played Davidson week 1, which would technically be the 1st SoCon vs recent defector football game but this is the real 1st SoCon throw-back football game.

That not very good Western Michigan team played a pretty good game against a "decent" Michigan State team. I wouldn't necessarily sell Ga Southern short just yet. Liberty was able to pass for almost 300 yards against WVA but ran for less than a 100. WVA is very stout against the run as Ga Southern discovered and without a QB that could pass, they played right into WVa's hands.

I think the juries still out on GS, they get their starting qb back this week, Western Michigan was a nice win, but they were hardly a top 25 team. I think they will take care of the Bulldogs this weekend, and it wouldn't surprise me to see them with only one loss going into our game, but call me a homer, but I don't think their going to beat us at home.

Yea not so sure about that.... I expect that while GS will have overall more talent and speed but the bulldogs will defend far better than WM did. What does that mean... will see that's why they play the game. I expect a closer outcome.

That was what they said about Michigan when we were to play them the first time.

Georgia Southern will win. Game will be high scoring and closer than one would think.

Prediction
Citadel 35
Georgia Southern 41

GS gets Ellison back at QB this weekend after his 2 game suspension, so I expect GS will be even stronger on offense than the last 2 weeks. They should beat Citadel handily but the Citdogs always give maximum effort and will not go down easy.

This game is in Statesboro with a QB that is very ready to be back playing football.

Ellison scores a minimum or two TDs and Brieda has 150+ yards on the ground.

GS - 50ish
Citadel - teenish

I don't think Georgia Southern will score as many as 50 points. Maybe in the high 40's though. They would be foolish to leave the "star" QB in with that kind of margin and risk injury to him.
Just my opinion as I am the world's worst at predicting scores.
BTW, why did the dude get suspended anyway?

I think it's humorous that not too long this was a conference game is now being called a "money game" for The Citadel. I don't recall what they are getting but don't think it was much more than 200,000k.

Time to put that line to bed. If you say it enough eventually it will come true, but 95 times out of a 100 GS beats El Cid "by as many as they want".
