Curious, what led you to pick Papenheim? Anything's possible, and he seems to have great potential, but I expect he's one of the more likely members of App's class to redshirt given his need to bulk up.

I would say Rubino might be our most high-impact freshman, at least among this year's class. We do have something like 18 redshirts, so perhaps one or more of them will break out. Jaylan Barbour being one likely candidate.

I would have thought Rubio also, nothing against the GS kicker, but I believe Rubio was ranked higher, and we had to fight off Penn State to land him.

I'm really excited about Papenheim especially in a year or two I think he'll be practically unstoppable but as a freshman I'm not entirely convinced. Depth issues could cause him to play some but I don't know about top 5 impact on entrance because there are definitely other positions like kicker or receiver or runningback that are easier to contribute at early on. About his size I don't think it will be a problem, he reminds me of Bronson Kaufusi at BYU who is projected to go 3rd or 4th round in the draft next year.

My guess is the reason the GS kicker was chosen is because the author is a GS student.........

I, too, think that Pappenheim will be shirted as we have lots of talent coming back. When I saw his measurables , I immediately thought about Ted "The Stork" Hendricks from the glory days of the Raiders. :)

Papenheim will benefit greatly from a year under Iron Mike. We've got 8 DE's besides Pap on the roster with Harkness and Stout coming out of their RS year and T Sims joining the mix. If everyone stays healthy this spring and in fall camp then I believe he'll be shirted. I think Brody Barrett is one to watch myself. He blew it away in the camp he came to, already has good size out of HS, and played in one of the country's toughest leagues. If he picks up our D quickly I would not be surprised at all to see him on the field this fall, even with the depth we have at NG. Anyway you cut it it's going to be an interesting fall. Lots of battles to watch, on both sides of the ball.

I'm thinking Mondo Williams will have a chance to see some playing time at corner.

Mondo will definitely play, and may well start, though of course he's not a freshman. Could be a factor in the return game as well as at CB.

Side note, Moose- I thought Stout projected at DT. You think he will be at DE?

He played both positions in high school, from his video. With his current listed size and his quickness he seems closer to a Blair type (not as tall but very quick off the ball) than a Fernandez or Small (260 vs 330 and 325) so I just mentioned him there but it'll be interesting to see where he's lining up right now. With practice reports on the sites saying both Blair and Fernandez are in preservation mode that is giving others more reps. Not a whole lot of difference between him and Burns in terms of size but when you have a 6' 3" 305 (last report) Fr coming in who played a fair bit of NG and always played on the inside you figure he's going to get some looks.

Because of the earlier start of spring ball and the complete unknown of Boone weather there's not going to be a spring game this year. That's why they've opened all the outdoor practices to the public. But the nice weather is ending today, at least for a while.

I don't put much importance on the 260 HS weight because I figured the plan is to bulk him up. Question is whether he has the frame to add enough weight to be a 3-4 NT. But I figure you see more 6'1" DTs than DEs. Guess the loss of Benton could also influence the staff's thinking, in terms of need.

Since he's been here a year I guess we'll see when they update the roster with the new sizes in July exactly how much weight he's added. That should be a tell as to possible position. From someone with a lot of time in the 3-4, to me it's better to have a dozer than a sports car holding down the NG position. FWIW, with the exception of Blair (6' 4") and Pap (6' 6") our entire DL is between 6' 0" and 6' 3" with every known DE either 6' 2" or 6' 3" except Dada at 6' 0". With our current makeup 6' 1" isn't out of line with either position.

From my understanding Stout played very well on the scout team last Fall.

I'd be surprised if Blair is taller than 6'2...seeing him next to Deuce he looks quite a bit shorter...height isn't what makes a DE good, but it does help.
