We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. One last thing, don't sleep on Kam keeping a read option this year.
He too was coming of ACL surgery last year and he's in fantastic physical condition now.
No, he's not AE, but look for more from him this year on that.

Hap,
Thanks had not thought about that perspective. Here is some more information from my Bama thoughts above. The Tide were ranked 22cnd when they played and lost to ULM (FCS also). Michigan because of its loss to App State would drop from the rankings (end of the season ended up ranked 18th).
Here is something else you all might not have been aware of – your school changed the AP voting process. As a result of Michigan's loss to Division I-FCS Appalachian State, the AP Poll changed its policy on not allowing pollsters to vote for Division I-FCS opponents. Now, if the Division I-FCS team has played an Division I-FBS team, they are eligible to be voted for in the AP Poll.[/quote]
see how mis-understood these lessor known teams are? ULM has been FBS Sunbelt Conference since about 2000. That is why it was not as big an event.

I have no doubt the option and QB designed runs will be part of the Mountaineer playbook, and I saw him have some nice ones - he musta been doing something right to take over from a senior QB. Like I said I was truly impressed more by his arm. That said Michigan is really familiar with the spreadoption attack from the RR era, and we play several B1G teams that run it - OSU, North Western, Nebraska, and others. Also your RB is a threat especially 1v1 in open space - like the kids game a lot.

Appride you are right I misread about when they joined the FBS, was not meant as a slight to them or App State just a reading error on my part. Like I said you guys won a major vitory to that there is no arguement.
I do agree smaller teams that average fan, myself included - know little about. Also a reason for concern with the new P5 autonomy ruling. Another reason in my opinion why App State was able to sneak up and punch us square in the kisser and earn a well-played victory.
As an aside, based on your comment I went and relooked - it was 0400 so I should get a little slack on my miread

We were less effective running it last year because Kam B. was not 100% and there were less designed runs for him.

Pride,
So I went and did even more looking now that I'va had coffee. You guys were the first, like i said changed the AP Poll process, and there have been two others (that I can find) neither othem them beat an FBS team ranked high as Michigan was.
2010 James Madison beat a #13 ranked Virginia Tech
2013 Eastern Washington beat # 25 Oregon State
So once again, Mea Culpa, my apologies.

I also learned, or read and you guys would have to tell me if true or not. FCS schools have just 63 available football scholarships, compared to 85 for FBS programs. While all 85 FBS scholarships are full rides, FCS schools often split many of theirs into quarter- and half-scholarships, to try and spread them out among more players and fill out a roster.

no worries, just pointing out that while we are very proud of our accomplishments at FCS level, the average football fan just doesn't know much about the lower levels...but I can assure you they were some exciting games and intense competition back in those championship days...also, yes, the fact that APP State changed the rules on top 25 poll was well known around APP at the time and a big deal.

Re: Enemy Coming in Peace to talk Michigan and Mountaineer G
FCS teams are only allowed to split 10 scholarships. I believe we used most of those on in-state players since the remaining tuition would be relatively cheap for the player to pay.SKWDCOP wrote:I also learned, or read and you guys would have to tell me if true or not. Re: Enemy Coming in Peace to talk Michigan and Mountaineer G
Would you say the average fan at UM knows that we are no longer FCS? It seems like we are getting less respect than say the MAC schools that play Michigan on a regular basis. Maybe that has more to do with our record from last year (deservedly so), or maybe it has more to do with proving 2007 was a one time thing?SKWDCOP wrote: Appride you are right I misread about when they joined the FBS, was not meant as a slight to them or App State just a reading error on my part. To be honest many (those who tune in only during the season - every team has them) M fans do not even have that much of a clue about their own team and players. Then you have fans like here at the Cabin that are diehards and know a lot about their team, recruiting, injuries, etc. If you stopped a M fan on the street at stadium and main, most probably would not they would know you beat us in 2007 and that is probably about it. If you asked a M blog fan (and there are many Michigan pay and free blogs) they very well might know. In either case it would not be because of your record if they did not know App State is now an FBS school. Unfortunately even in the FBS as evident by the recent NCAA ruling it sets up haves and have nots mentality, which to me is disheartening. Do the players need more of a stipend, probably but what is fair and should it apply to all athletes at a university - in equality terms probably, in what they bring into the university probably not - Michigan rowing isn't bringing in dollars, just costing dollars so should they get more than scholarship help - tough questions.
But one thing you can rest assured even the novice M fan knows who you are even if they did not in 07, and trust me our main rivals rub that game in our face as well.

Michigan States D Coordinator took an App State Poke at us just a couple days ago.
