We have the same number of WRs in the NFL as App State--1.PhillyApp1 wrote:How many WR's has Temple put in the nFL recently?
That answer should lead him where to go....if not good luck to him...APP will be good with him and good without him....i hope he makes the right choice.
Rod Streater: 60 receptions, 888 yards, 4 TDs
Brian Quick: 18 receptions, 302 yards, 2 TDs
Excellent degree, brand new academic and athletic facilities, big school, big city with a lot of cultural and culinary offerings, four major sports teams, tons of internship and job opportunities if he does not make the NFL.EastHallApp wrote:Man, not sure I get the appeal of Temple. Farther from home, still non P5, one of the worst FBS programs in the country for decades. Pretty much the only selling point I could see is if you just really prefer to go to college in a big city. Or I guess if you like playing your home games in a mostly empty NFL stadium...
I would love to know where you went to school. Templetown is not in the projects. The Badlands are several miles away from campus. A lot of new places are popping up on campus and near campus. Stephen Starr and Marc Vetri didn't open restaurants down the street from Temple because it's in the slums. I'm guessing like many in the city and outside the city, you have not been on campus in quite a while. We just opened the largest and most expensive dorm in the country. Our football facility recently underwent a $10M expansion. We opened up a $60M athletic facility than is used for campus recreation and houses our men's and women's basketball practice facilities, which are used by all visiting NBA teams in town to play the Sixers. We have an $140M science center opening this summer. We just announced an $190M library.PhillyApp1 wrote:I went to college in philly. Love Big 5 basketball but Temple football is like high school in comparison. Temple is a city school in the projects of north philly and has a good student body and decent academics but playing football at Temple with Penn State and Rutgers in the Big 10 is B league ....I hope he sees how App is a Football town.
Rutgers is going to drown in the B10. Our recruiting class is as good as theirs and could end up better. Penn State is Penn State, but we should've beaten them last time. They're the only game in (middle of nowhere) town, which is a far cry from being in the middle of a major city.
We haven't averaged 10K in a while. We have nearly 10K students per game, with highs of around 12K for Penn State and Villanova. Our attendance is not great, but our student section grows every year, and school pride has really risen over the last few years. The key for us is to get alums back and to get unaffiliated fans to buy in. As far as the stadium goes, we are very likely going to announce plans for a 30K-34K on campus stadium in the coming months.Goapps15 wrote:I understand his sister may live there but still what is appealing about playing in front of 10-15,000 people on average NFL stadium? They have consistently been one of the 10 worst FBS programs going back a long while. It is one thing if it is Rutgers, Cincinnati, or Vanderbilt but I will not be happy to lose a guy to Temple for football.
The only good of him going to Temple is that if we do not get him, stAte does not get him either.
We have been historically bad, thanks to 100 years of administrative incompetence. We have a new president and athletic director, who are all in on major college football. Duke is historically awful too and they did pretty well this year. Just because we've been bad most of our history doesn't mean we're unable to turn it around.
I think a 1st round, a 2nd round, 2 3rd round, a 4th round, and a 5th round pick since 2009 is pretty impressive all things considered. We also have a few undrafted players doing well including the aforementioned Rod Streater and Saints starting LB Junior Galette, who was 6th in the NFL in sacks this year.
We have 3 scholarship underclassmen WRs returning, one of whom is mostly going to be used on special teams. Fitzpatrick is a senior, our top WR Robby Anderson is a junior, and our #3 WR John Christopher is a junior. We currently have 4 committed who will definitely play WR, one of whom may not qualify. One of our commits who is listed at WR on Rivals is likely to play safety.Rekdiver wrote:Temple has 10 undergrad WRs and most ore Sophs or Rs freshmen. They have 4 WR commits in this class and 1 is 6 4 and 190.. A Little crowded there.
If you noticed the TE position on our roster, they are much lighter than traditional TEs. That is because our offense does not utilize a traditional TE. We use a WR/TE hybrid, i.e. bigger than a WR, but smaller and faster than a TE. We essentially run a 4 WR set at all times. Our starter at the hybrid is 6'4 225 and coming off an injury. Eaton very well could start over him as a freshman. At the least, there is plenty of playing time available with 4 WRs out there nearly every play.
