Our culture:

Self-reliance and resourcefulness

Appreciation for each other and the area

Supporting each other/team over self

Grounded in traditional family and often religious values

Pretty much the opposite of the direction of CFB today.

I read your list as if I'm not mistaken as general university culture and that is an important baseline. The things that made GameDay so special are what I was addressing. Boone is the epitome of a small town where college football is king. The things that happen in and around Boone and the App campus on GameDay is where traditions are launched and renewed every game day. I was always inspired by the band playing The Olympic Theme for every kickoff, Black in Black, Welcome to The Rock, 3333 Ft. I know many of you could list others. Remember the booming APP .... STATE cheers. Oh well I'm old but not against change. Some things should never change

My biggest fear with the NIL/portal era was that the "rich" would get richer. I was concerned that talent would get concentrated not just in the P4 but in blue blood programs. But that hasn't happened. Indiana, Iowa State, Vandy and Georgia Tech are all 5-0. If Indiana can compete in the Big 10, Appalachian can compete in the Sun Belt.

Just like in life, here in the U.S., it’s all about money. In the scheme of things, culture has fallen and will continue to fall down the list of importance.

That is fan culture and fans can change that culture or keep it. Participate in the traditions that we want to keep, write emails to leaders about their importance, advocate for those.

Culture that is equally if not more important is the culture between the lines, in the weight room, and time shared with teammates. Gritty, chip on the shoulder, belief in your brothers, and basically the traditional American value of E Pluribus Unum was our mentality.

The broader societal culture has eroded those concepts to prefer a semi-pro game and the general public will celebrate the Penn St/Oregon games at the expense of App/GS. "We" are receiving what "we" are demanding.

The real winners in this era are the second and third tier P4 conference members. You could argue the losers were the ones that were already paying players regularly and now the playing field has evened out for those with large TV deals. Look at who is struggling to sustain previous levels of success at the P4 level for your suspects there.
