Good point T-Dog. It's just not the same without the traditional powerhouses in it.T-Dog wrote:The 2005-2012 FCS? Sort of. The current FCS, nope.

I do miss the playoffs, but the good of FBS outweighs them. I was against FBS at first, but I have to say I was wrong and this has gone better than I could have imagined or hoped for.

I understand what you are saying. It is not the same. I miss the playoffs and regardless of crowd size I miss the away games we could go to. BUT it is what it is and I still go to the home games and have a good time. There is an advantage to having the games on the internet. In the past I would miss other things by going to the games. Now I can do both if there is a conflict.vegattk wrote:Yes, but only for personal reasons.
The move was in the right direction for the school... Just not for my family.
Went almost 20 years without missing a home game: Couldn't afford season tickets last year.
Kids have been to every single home game (even in the womb and at a week overdue): Raised kid prices caused us to cut them out two years ago
Increased distance to away games have made the family miss the close games we enjoyed in the past
The family atmosphere is gone.. but at least we can enjoy our Saturdays at home watching on TV.... But it's not the same.

I never have cared how big an opposing team's stadium is, how many students they have enrolled, or how many fans they bring to games. Only care about what kind of team they put on the field. Don't really understand why playing private schools bothered some fans so much, but clearly it did. We're hosting a small private school in KBS this year, and from what I can tell, most of us are pretty excited about it.

I am very happy with our move to FBS. I, too, believe realignment-to some degree- will happen in next several years. This will make it even better! I have loved our 2 trips to Montgomery.

The bolded statement hits the nail of the head why the move was wanted by so many. For years many in the fanbase had come to the realization that we weren't competing against our peers. Beating opponents with half the resources by 2-3 TDs wasn't exciting. It's the same reason high P5 schools aren't thrilled to see G5 and FCS programs on their schedules.EastHallApp wrote:I never have cared how big an opposing team's stadium is, how many students they have enrolled, or how many fans they bring to games. Now 85% of our schedule consists of programs with similar resources.

Although Wake and Wofford have some things in common like they're private schools and both begin with the letter W, but, when it comes to football and national recognition they're light years apart.

I miss FCS like I miss junior high. It was fun and I have great memories, but I don't want to go back. Things get more challenging but much better as we keep moving forward.

Yeah, I guess I just remember some pretty tough games against the likes of Furman and Wofford that weren't won by 2-3 TDs. Even Elon, who we usually pounded, but they were a top 10 team for a couple years there.Saint3333 wrote:The bolded statement hits the nail of the head why the move was wanted by so many. Plus it's not like we were exactly outclassing the FCS field those last few years...

Oh I agree. That's kind of my point - I don't care about public/private, or 50,000 students vs. 8,000. Just care about the football program.WataugaMan wrote:Although Wake and Wofford have some things in common like they're private schools and both begin with the letter W, but, when it comes to football and national recognition they're light years apart.

You know, part of the reason most of us don't miss FCS much is because our transition has been so incredibly successful. It's hard to have much regret when you're winning 10+ games and winning bowls right out of the gate. If we were going 5-7 and getting our butts kicked by, say, UNCC, we might be having some second thoughts too.

As the old adage goes ... "Winning cures a lot of ills" - so very true --- And we just have to look back here on this board a couple of years and find a great deal of discontent ---EastHallApp wrote:You know, part of the reason most of us don't miss FCS much is because our transition has been so incredibly successful. I also don't remember that many 2 and 3 TD wins over Furman, Wofford and the last few years of Elon - even Samford
AGAIN, I am glad we moved when we did and have had the success we have had !!!

One game a year against a team not named GSU was exciting that's true. I have very similar feelings as you guys - We has season tickets and made it to all home games and home playoff games for about 13-14 years - Went to every game, home and away in 2007 --- Now age and lack of funds have caught up with us BUT IT IS GREAT TO BE ABLE TO WATCH EVERY GAME FROM MY CHAIR !!!bcoach wrote:I understand what you are saying. Eh, other than maybe 2006, I think we had more competitive games than that. Plus it's not like we're exactly fighting tooth and nail every week in the Sun Belt. We haven't really had more competitive games here the past couple years than we did in the SoCon.Saint3333 wrote:One game a year against a team not named GSU was exciting that's true. Fortunately, I enjoy watching us beat the crap out of teams, so I have no complaint about that.

Re: U Miss FCS?
We got two competitive games a year in the SoCon (before our slide in 2012) and we took one of those teams with us to the SBC.
I've been surprised at the ease we've handled GS and ULL the last two years. I do remember Troy the last two years being better football than anything I saw in the SoCon since the 2005 App/Furman semi.

Not counting the money games as those are a different story. When was the last time we went undefeated and how many times in the last 25 years?
