Re: U Miss FCS?
No I don't miss FCS. I don't miss playing small private schools with pee wee facilities and a student body the size of a high school. That said I did have misgivings about FBS but the move has exceeded all of my expectations. The exposure and relevancy are light years beyond FCS.
I do look back often and it's bittersweet. The feelings of the playoffs, the championships, the epic games at The Rock. Michigan. Armanti Edwards. The explosion of growth in the program. Heady times. I miss those feelings, the nostalgia. We experienced success that few fanbases will ever know. Those are memories and feelings I will carry with me the rest of my life. I wouldn't trade that for anything, but all of that happened because we were destined to move on.

I miss my seven and five year olds' baby days, but I'm enjoying these years too much right now to dwell on it.

Yeah, I miss seeing Armanti turn on the jets and truck a linebacker now and then. Additionally, I will never ever forget the feeling in the air for our 3 back to back titles (was lucky enough to attend the first and last ones in nooga). However, this transition has been exciting to see and there is no way that I would trade what we have now for what we had then.......

This x 1000. How do you even quantify the value of that. Exciting times ahead for our program.

With the conversation this one sided I ask a follow up.....
How many still wish we'd been invited into C-USA vs who's happy in the Sunbelt?
I'd argue we'd have more conference mates in a close proximity (UNCC, ODU, Marshall, etc) but I think the brass in the Sunbelt are doing a better job running this ship.

Re: U Miss FCS?
Never have and never will. I enjoyed our FCS runs through playoffs and NC's but always thought we should be FBS. We were not a good fit in FCS for a long time. Since we have arrived it has only reinforced my opinion. I know we will never be a top 5 but always thought we have potential to be consistent top G5 and overall top 25 program. Over the next 5-10 yrs, given quality leadership and coaching we will consistently exist in that world. It just feels so much more relevant as an FBS school and many more people recognize App State nationally now.

I was in the stands when we beat Michigan and all three National Championships....then our first Bowl Game. I don't miss the FCS at all.
We are followed by the national media now on a consistent basis and guess what? The vast majority of sportscasters and media people pronounce APPALACHIAN correctly!!!!! Miami Wake and UNC have played or will play in Boone. In fact hell no I don't miss the FCS.

For now I prefer the Sun Belt. (I'll prefer it even more if JMU joins)APPdiesel wrote:How many still wish we'd been invited into C-USA vs who's happy in the Sunbelt?
I like being in a conference with Georgia Southern, and we have good things ahead with Coastal Carolina joining up.
The only thing I envy C-USA for is their bowl tie-ins.

Re: U Miss FCS?
Those were cool times with great teams and awesome players. Armanti will always be remembered as one of the best. I drove around for years with my 3 time NC license plate on the front of my car and always bragged about our accomplishments. Like many of us I honestly felt like we could have competed in a few G5 conferences even with 65 scholarships. Even though I (we) felt that way the reality was that not a ton of people outside our world knew that FCS really existed or gave it any relevance. I mentioned earlier that I personally heard us referred to as D2 way more times than I wanted. Looking through the windshield I love what I am seeing

I wonder if those tie-in contracts come-up for renewal around the same time as the expiration of their TV rights deal. Makes you wonder if those bowls will look elsewhere if the CUSA keeps putting out a watered down product. We can hope!APPdiesel wrote:I hadn't even though of the bowl tie-ins. Re: U Miss FCS?
CUSA bowl locations: Boca Raton, Bahamas, Hawaii, Fort Worth, Dallas, NO, New Mexico.
SBC: Montgomery, Orlando, Mobile, NO, Arizona
CUSA's bowls sound nice, but in reality none are within driving distance for the majority of our fanbase. For the conference as a whole, the SBC's bowl set up is much more fan friendly.

Re: U Miss FCS?
I used to be of the opinion (years ago) that a State or UNC fan should want their teams to play in the Peach Bowl every year if they didn't make a major bowl. Easy drive and great city to do stuff in. What is the appeal for fan bases in mainly NC to have their team go out west for a bowl. Now the Hawaii Bow would be awesome for the players but how many fans can afford that trip?Saint3333 wrote:CUSA bowl locations: Boca Raton, Bahamas, Hawaii, Fort Worth, Dallas, NO, New Mexico.

Which conferences are the CUSA tied in with? - I'm guessing the NO Bowl is with the SB?Saint3333 wrote:CUSA bowl locations: Boca Raton, Bahamas, Hawaii, Fort Worth, Dallas, NO, New Mexico.

Re: U Miss FCS?
GS fans are likely missing the FCS days because, outside of the 2014 season, they're admin failing at it. They're seeing the scheduling moves we're making (ones they are not) and know they're falling behind
Re: U Miss FCS?
Yes, but only for personal reasons.
The move was in the right direction for the school... Just not for my family.
Went almost 20 years without missing a home game: Couldn't afford season tickets last year.
Kids have been to every single home game (even in the womb and at a week overdue): Raised kid prices caused us to cut them out two years ago
Increased distance to away games have made the family miss the close games we enjoyed in the past
The family atmosphere is gone.. but at least we can enjoy our Saturdays at home watching on TV.... But it's not the same.

One game does not a postseason make.
