So I have a friend who works in the SGA/IFC and he told me that in the name of being politically correct, they will no longer crown Homecoming king or Queen. There will instead be one winner known as the Mighty Mountaineer, and there is no gender restrictions on how many guys and girls are to be on the court (which also has a different name now too, but I don't know what it is)

Now we can get rid of title IX along with men's and women's sports, merge them and allow the best athletes to earn scholarships based on their own merit. Think of the cost savings for not having 2 bball teams, 2 soccer teams etc...Who would be the winners and losers in this true equality non-gender set up? It's purely based on each individual's performance!

I'm in the college of business so I don't have to deal with that at all. We are very well adjusted in the business college. Now friends that are in other majors have said that there are definitely trigger warnings and pronoun sharing. All the dorms this year, you had to put which pronouns you were on your door with your name. That was a school mandated policy.

I didn't pay attention to the nonsense before and won't now. Did you really care who the king and queen were at any homecoming unless you had a personal connection? The best approach would be to abandon the whole thing.

It's a sad day when the movie "PCU" looks more normal than an actual university.

The whole homecoming court, king and queen are outdated popularity contests that mean nothing to 95% of students and further can be heartache events for high schoolers... The student groups can do whatever they like in regard to this....

ASU PARTNERS WITH LOCAL PROGRAMS TO FORM MIGHTY MOUNTAINEERS

Appalachian athletics has joined forces with youth football and cheerleading programs across the High Country to create the Mighty Mountaineers Youth Football partnership.

Mighty Mountaineers Youth Football was created to encourage the participation in youth football and cheerleading in the High Country, while developing a relationship between Appalachian State athletics and area youth programs and increasing the brand of the Mountaineers and the Black and Gold in the community.

A total of 34 teams from the Ashe, Avery, Watauga and Wilkes Counties’ parks and recreation departments and the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church EQUIP program are participating in the program.

As part of the partnership, 22 youth football teams across the High Country will be provided with reversible black and gold jerseys as well as helmet decals, string packs, discounts to ASU athletic events, coaches’ shirts, signage, special promotions for participants and more. Twelve cheerleading squads are also participating and will receive black and gold uniforms with ASU’s Block A logo.

Homecoming Royalty
According to Appalachian State's mission statement, one of the University's goals is to, "promote a spirit of inclusion that inspires students, faculty, and staff to form relationships extending well beyond graduation." In celebration of the University's commitment to inclusion, we will be selecting 9 individuals who represent the best of the best that Appalachian State has to offer. They will be our Homecoming Royalty. Out of these 9 participants, the student body will crown one " Top of the Rock". Our selection process will remain the same, however, our pool of candidates will focus on who brings the most to our campus community. The homecoming committee is very excited to make these changes and cannot wait to see who will be crowned Top of the Rock 2016!

The parade is now at 6pm on Friday Night.

No don't get rid of homecoming. Tack on an additional fee to tuition that will pay for 18,000 trophies so everybody gets one.
