Watauga and/or Boone residents ...
I have my cardiac rehab class in Boone tomorrow AM. What can I expect the roads to be like between 8 and 9 o'clock...from Deep Gap through Deerfield to the Broyhill Wellness Ctr?
Many thanks for any info you can provide. I'm a LOT more careful these days than I once was!

Thank you. It's a long way back and progress is painfully slow for this high-strung Type A personality--programmed with nearly zero patience. I am making some progress.

Chuck,
Right now it's still snowing but it's also still blowing to beat the band. We haven't had many wrecks on 421 this afternoon and evening but I would say that early tomorrow that there will be a few patches on 421, Bamboo and Wilson's Ridge would be worse if the salt blows off. I know they are putting down brine this evening since the wind is still so high. If you have an extra few minutes I would go into Boone and take State Farm off the extension (Boone has more time to work the roads) or even go to 321 and go in that way, just in case. I really don't think it's going to be that bad since the temps are only supposed to be in the mid to upper 20's but all it takes is a small patch of snow or ice and some idiot who doesn't know how to drive on it to ruin your day. I try to avoid Wilson's Ridge in any kind of weather because of the hairpin turn. I'm going to be working most of the night and if it gets much worse I'll pop you a message in this thread and let you know.

Don't know if you'll see this before you leave but I took a run to the county line and 421, aside from blowing snow, is in pertty good shape, as is Bamboo for the most part. Only a couple of slick spots. Wilson's Ridge is a bit worse, especially from mid way up the hill to just over the top. They were putting more salt down as I went through and the temps are around 29 or 30 so if it stays on the road it should melt. There is no school so if you have time going through town won't be too bad but if not just be careful going up the hill and through the hairpin. There might be a slick spot in a couple of places but nothing a front wheel or four wheel drive can't handle, especially after 8. Hope this helps.

Thanks much for that link as I may need it when thinking about traveling up to Holmes for a game or two this winter.

You may want to try a women's/men's doubleheader. At least you'll have one happy result.
