I saw Chancellor Everts at the Pat Benatar concert Friday night. She looked well. She announced the bands and gave the obligatory intros and thanked sponsors. She did catch herself saying Appalaychian....was truly embarrassed. Melissa Ethridge did pick up on this and did pronounce it correctly. Now Sherri you have been here long enough to not make that mistake! Come on girl!

Two years in as chancellor it should be burned into your brain on how to pronounce Appalachian State correctly. So much that like me, you stop someone mid-sentence to correct them on the pronunciation.

I heard about this too and am concerned. The leader of Appalachian State University mispronounces the name of the institution? Chancellor Everts should be embarrassed. We are!

I travel the country and hear it all the time. I sometimes correct folks in certain situations but also realize there are more important things that I want to spend my time arguing with people about. I would rather educate folks on what our university is about and what we have accomplished and if they still mispronounce the name, so be it. If they remember us accurately then that is my most important point.

This is completely unacceptable! Would your employer let you mispronounce their name for 2 years? How is this any different than her calling us UNC-Boone?

Now the chancellor should know how to pronounce the name of the university she heads. When it comes to the rest of the country we need to relax just a bit. Both pronunciations of the word are perfectly acceptable in reference to the mountain chain. Therefore we should not go ballistic when someone refers to the school. Just a polite suggestion that here is how we pronounce the name of our school. If we were as confident as we would like to believe we would not be so sensitive.

Tongue in cheek or not, given that people are questioning her leadership this does not win many converts. This is App 101 she's a sophomore so should be past this.

I agree but she sure as hell didn't mess it up at any of the graduations I sat through this past year. With a BS in mathematics I shouldn't mess up high school math when teaching dang if I don't do that.

My wife and I were both in attendance at the concert Friday night and I must admit it was a bit awkward when the Chancellor of our school could not pronounce it correctly. As Moose said I think everybody tends to be overly sensitive these days when it comes to stuff like this but dang after 2 years you would think she would have it down by now. I bet she will get it right in September after we kick Miami`s butt

We're not talking about some freshman from New Jersey. We're talking about the chancellor of the university!

I'm fine with uniform colors, coaching changes, Thursday night games, tailgating rules, old school Yosef, and all the other things, but this has lit my fuse!
