Reading through the new UNC BOARD OF GOVERNORS 2015-17 Operating and Capital Budget Priorities that was released today it's showing App has requested 35 Million for a Stadium Addition in 2020-2021 fiscal year. I have added the image. It's a bit fuzzy but it's line 9 (last line) listed in the App Section. Click on the image and you'll see it better.

Anyway to find out what the 35m would go towards

What worries me is the line above it. It looks like it's that mixed-used residence hall that is ticketed for Owens Fieldhouse.

I'll be checking on that. Just got it a little earlier. It does say Addition but I've just started going through it. I have saved the whole 42 page doc. T-Dog and I found it at about the same time. Just lucky I have no life so I was going through the info.

Notice ECU is requesting $50 million for pressbox expansion.

Feel like I've seen some schools do that to insure the funds are approved, and the "mixed-use" part is permanent stadium seating and maybe club suites

Yes. 45 million in 2018-19. I believe this is on top of that.

Also in the BOG notes was the approval of the sale of the 2006 bonds.

Typically how much does the athletic director have in a request like this? Is this something the board decided to request while Charlie Cobb was still here? It seems a little odd that this would come up while we don't have an athletic director. I honestly don't know how this kind of stuff works.

So we are expanding in 2018 and 2020? What can we do to KBS with that type of money?

No dorm rooms connected to the stadium please. Don't expand at any cost, expand the right way.

I actually do not mind it, if it is a means to the end financially.

The description I have heard is athletic dorm rooms (think legacy Justice - to my knowledge there are currently no all male dorms) would be below the stands with more gameday suites and/or condos above with field views. These suites/condos would be available much like the current club level seats/suites.

If done right, it could be aesthetically appeasing... BUT to do so I think the track may have to be relocated (not intending to open a can of worms).

So we are pumping 80 million into KBS the next few years?

Do we know when these budget requests were made? Out of curiousity, I am wondering if it was made as Peacock was on his way out or if it is from SNE's admin.

I agree with others on this post that I sincerely hope that they don't build a dorm into the stadium. Im also not sure if Im down with state/tax payer money being used for a stadium. I think that money should be only used for students and academics at any school in the UNC system. I know many on this board that would go ape s*** if UNC-CH used state money to build something for athletics. This also make me suspect that Student Housing is being included into the project because that is probably the best way to get state money.

So does anyone know if we are requesting only this 35m or if the 45m from last year was denied?

not going to get excited until I actually see the work beginning, remember, Chapel Hill has alot of influence (putting it nicely) on the BOG, just don't have any faith that the state will come thru for us, our best bet is to raise funds thru App alumi donations. Speaking of which, where do we stand on the fundraising started 3? years ago, trying to raise I believe, not entirely sure, 100 million? I know a big chunk of that money was to be used on athletic dept.

Looks like we are at $197.25 million of the $200 million raised so far.

wow, I did not realize the goal was 200 million, its great to see we have almost reached our goals.

I would be ok with the dorms as long as they don't tower over the stadium like we see in the one concept show at KBS. There have been plenty of stadiums with dorms built around the outside (LSU and UT come to mind) so this isn't some new idea. As long as we only have seats/suites visible from inside the stadium then I'm all for it. The outside of the building would probably look more attractive if done this way. Florida State has class rooms built around their stadium and it looks very nice...
