New App State store on King Street
If you have yet to check out King Street's new App State store, it's called Barefoot Campus Outfitters.
I actually stopped by yesterday and it's a pretty awesome place! Very different than the other Appalachian merchandise stores on King Street. All of their merch is pretty up-to-date with "Victory Yosef," too.

Re: New App State store on King Street
Bought a shirt from here yesterday. Very cool store with trendy shirts and other items. Sadly, I don't think this will bode well for the other stores on King street though. The quality seems to be more inline with the bookstore than some of the other shop's items. Definitely worth a visit for everyone next time.

Re: New App State store on King Street
I was wondering where all the new shirts people were wearing were coming from until I walked in BCO's. I liked seeing they had some different items. They were a bit pricier (I think) but they are new also. If they keep refreshing their items and have some closeout sales, they might compete with the older stores. I'm surprised on how stale some of the items are getting elsewhere.8993 wrote:If you have yet to check out King Street's new App State store, it's called Barefoot Campus Outfitters.

I believe there is room for it, along with what we have. It certainly seems to appeal to the younger crowd. I enjoyed visiting it, but didn't see anything I couldn't live without. Pricier, but it did have a $10 t-shirt sale area (by the stuffed bear).

We checked it out this weekend. Nice stuff, but definitely pricier than the other King St. shops. If you're OK paying $25 for a t-shirt, it's worth a look.

Yeah they were ugly blue, but if they always have a special it will be good.MAD Doctor wrote:I believe there is room for it, along with what we have. There was also a store with a $5 T's past Farmers Hardware. They had the grey with black and also a black one. I think they said they were going to run a different one every month.

Re: New App State store on King Street
I will not buy from this store. Unlike Sports Fanattic, Mountaineer Mania and App T's - who are grads, long time supporters of ASU or residents of Boone - the owner lives out of state and has no ties to the area. His profits will not benefit the Boone community or ASU. He has several other stores in cities throughout the Southeast and only came to Boone after App was admitted to the SunBelt. This summer he attempted to buy out several store's inventories, but they all refused. I will continue to buy my ASU merchandise from the ASU Bookstore or those hometown business' who are long time supporters of ASU and have a vested interest in the Boone community.

It's a franchise and there isn't much of an App selection. They're not getting any of my money.

Competition is good for the consumer, and I am sure the employees will spend their money in Boone. I checked it out but ended up spending my money at the bookstore as usual.

No matter where he lives it helps the people that works for him, he pays licensing fees to APP and they pay taxes which helps boone. The Annoying Peasant wrote:I will not buy from this store. I like local too, but given that most of these place buy their items from china takes away any loyalty I use to have. If they are local they should have less overhead (they don't have to may as many employees and managers) and should be able to compete.
In the end the people who buy should be the winners because they have more options.

Cool. We went. I didn't buy anything, but my wife bought a skirt. She is wearing it today, and I am quite fond of the purchase. Maybe if they sold jorts, it'd be your go-to?Gonzo wrote:It's a franchise and their isn't much of an App selection. They're not getting any of my money.

Re: New App State store on King Street
I bought the Navy blue shirt with the American Flag pattern inside the A (It was only $15). It was great for the occasion and nicer than anything else I saw that day. I will shop locally if they have what I want. Otherwise I shop with who has the best merchandize.

I saw several that tied their stuff to NC or the area, I was kind of surprised.clemmonsapp wrote:I bought the Navy blue shirt with the American Flag pattern inside the A (It was only $15). I'm with you about buying from who has the best merch. I can't begin to express how tired I am of seeing some of the same old lame crap year after year. (I know some are classic, keep them).
There is nothing about seeing a plain white T that looks like a Bud or PBR can that has "APP" somewhere on it that looks like something you could find at any other school has that turns me on. lol

Re: New App State store on King Street
The "Buy Local" sentiment is misplaced and backwards in almost every circumstance.Maddog1956 wrote:No matter where he lives it helps the people that works for him, he pays licensing fees to APP and they pay taxes which helps boone. The Annoying Peasant wrote:I will not buy from this store. The burden is on local businesses to cater to local buyers. Not the other way around.
If this "evil" chain is bringing a new style/product that people are inclined to buy... why in the world would you prevent that? So people miss out on products they would've otherwise bought because the local places don't have them and are inherently more deserving?
When I shop, I look for a certain style of apparel at a certain price, if I see it, I buy it. Limiting what I can buy because a local does not supply what I want screws me over more than the business.
That said, the only things I bought this weekend were from a couple of local shops. But if I saw something at Barefoot that I liked, I would buy without hesitation.
Competition breeds excellence. Local and chains alike.

Just make sure you never eat at Cookout or McDonalds or Bojangles and never go to WalMart and dont shop at HarrisTeeter....those arent locally owned eitherThe Annoying Peasant wrote:I will not buy from this store. Re: New App State store on King Street
I understand supporting the local merchants - however, our daughter worked at a chain franchise for 2 years while she was a student at APP and I promise you she spent every dollar she made in the Boone area - Her husband to be and 2 of her bridesmaids worked there as well - It doesn't make them bad because they are not local ---Maddog1956 wrote:No matter where he lives it helps the people that works for him, he pays licensing fees to APP and they pay taxes which helps boone. The Annoying Peasant wrote:I will not buy from this store. Also with this store mentioned it doesn't sound like they are coming in and undercutting the local merchants with cheaper merchandise as most who went in said their stuff was more expensive ---

Re: New App State store on King Street
I went in there and even picked up a free t if only to use to dry the seats with.
My problem is that they have 13 stores one of which is at GaSo. Fair enough on the stores, some of which are in various size schools. I don't see any App on their company webpage beyond the block A but I do see GaSo displayed prominently on their homepage. I don't like that.

Re: New App State store on King Street
I went to school with Jody when they opened Sports Fanattic and used to trade football cards with Larry in the back of the store. I got caught in rain storm one day on Kings Street and ducked into Mountaineer Mania drenched to the bone. First thing the lady said was "what size do you wear?" I told her I had no money and she said "don't worry about it". Got me a new dry shirt, no questions asked. Went back and paid them later and had to leave the money on the counter because she refused to take it. No offense to any other merch store, no matter who owns it and I'm not trying to make any kind of "statement", but those are the stores where I'll go. Local or not, good folks is what matters to me I guess.
