We are in need of someone to take over the maintenance of the MMB. Yosef has done it for a long time, and we are grateful for all he has done, but life happens and he no longer has the time to devote to its upkeep. If anyone here is interested in helping to keep the board running, please let me know via DM.

I guess a few have seen it by now but someone finally leaked some of the "top secret" finalists for the Ga. State Athletic Director position. The candidates have been kept very quiet, to the point that a release was made stating that they would not release the names. As you can see by the article the reports are "unconfirmed" but Charlie Cobb is listed. Take it for what it's worth but personally I'm not surprised.

My only thought on this is this. If Charlie is offered the job and accepts. Who will IGGreer turn his hatred toward?

Georgia State, are you effin kidding me? Sounds like a demotion to me. If it is a "promotion" then it would have to involve a raise in pay only, but a downgrade in prestige.

Cobb is setting the bar low these days. From NC State and Clemson aspirations, down to Georgia Effin State.

Look at this from Cobb's perspective. It is atypical that an AD stays at a G5 program for over 10 years. GA St. Is a way to build up the resume and a rather easy way. They are terrible overall with terrible fan support, bad donation levels, and facilities are either rented or obsolete. The next AD there may have the easiest AD job at the FBS level. You can be average and look great. This isn't that I think Cobb is average because as many know I think he's done a good job other than a couple black marks. I've enjoyed my. Onversations with him over the years and greatful for the changes he made during the past ten years. I hope he stays, but can understand if he left too.
I am concerned with who our next AD would be if he left though.

There's lots going on. It will come out one day whether he gets this job or not.

They can pay him more. He has family, connections, and a history in Atlanta. Most will remember he was after the Southern Miss job until it came out how bad their financials were. See the article below for Ga. State's plans. Looks like they are planning some new facilities. Whatever the reasons we'll know soon enough.

As far as a possible replacement goes should he get the job I believe there would be quite a few good people who would apply. For that matter look closely at the article I linked in the first post. The other named finalist is Mario Moccia, AD at Southern Illinois. Wonder if Dr Everts knows him?

He would be appointed interim most likely but I have......let's just call it a feeling for now....that we would be looking outside of the top of the current Department hierarchy should Cobb get the job. Interesting times.

I made this error earlier and was rightfully corrected. I am only posting because I have seen it erroneously mentioned on this board as well as another. Chancellor Everts is from Illinois State University and not Southern Ill.
As far as Cobb goes, personally I hope he stays. Yes there have been blunders and I have been a critic at times. At this point in time though, we have recently experienced large scale changes both academically and athletically therefore I think it is important to have CC as a consistent piece of the puzzle to help guide us through these first years in a new conference to help bridge the "old" and "new."
If he does choose to leave, I hope we look for a candidate with experience as an associate AD at a P5 or a current AD from a successful G5 program. (And pretty please no one with ties to either UNC or NCSU!)

I hope your "feeling" translates into "hiring someone not currently or previously affiliated with App State". I love App State as much as anyone but in my opinion getting leadership from the outside (someone not in the "Good ol' Boys" network) is what we need if Cobb leaves.
I'm not a conspiracy theorist or Cobb hater by making a "Good ol' Boys" network claim. It happens everywhere.

I had to double check myself earlier this evening also but I wasn't saying they were together. Illinois State and Southern Illinois both are in the MVC and about half a state apart. We know that there is always interaction within conference members both in Admin and Athletics. Dr Everts would more than likely know about the Southern Illinois program as she is on the record as being a sports fan and big football fan. I just poised the question if she might know him. All reports are that he has done a pretty good job at SIU.
However I also said I think we would have a pretty good list of applicants should the job become available. I would expect that would include a few associates (more likely assistants unless we pony up some more money) from some P5's. Mainly I would hope that we would conduct a real national search and bring in someone who has experience in some form or fashion with both the good and bad points of dealing with a rural university. Like it or not it is something that an AD at App has to deal with in all aspects of the job.

Rick Beasley would not be the interim AD. No way. I like him but his current post is more like an honorary position and he probably wouldn't want to do it anyway. It would have to be Doug Justice.

If / when we have a vacancy in the AD's position, I predict that one of the first applications received in Dr. Everts' office will be from a fellow familiar to many of us. On the other hand, having recently moved from Arkansas to Illinois, another move so soon would be very, very cumbersome (to say the least).
http://www.fightingillini.com/genrel/081214aaa.html
Everybody just hide and watch! The AJC reports that..."Georgia State President Mark Becker said earlier this week that a new athletic director could be named within a week and should certainly be named within the next two weeks."
Oh, BTW, I can guarantee that Dr. Everts didn't begin her tenure as Chancellor without a mental list of the five AD's she'd want to consider if / when she's presented with a resignation. I also wouldn't rule out the BOT contracting with a search firm to recruit top-drawer candidates for any future AD vacancy.

I'm telling you guys that a great candidate would be Hunter Yurachek at Coastal Carolina. He is very impressive.
