Strength & Conditioning Coordinator

This is an Unofficial thread since no Official announcement has been made but I guess it's time to start since the Football page finally says TBA for S & C. It's been said for a while that changes were coming but only in the past week or two was word floating around that Kareem was no longer S & C Coordinator. I was just waiting for something to show up and now it has. I put this in the General Discussion section since the position is for the entire university sports programs although the holder of the job is usually listed under the Football Coaches tab. The job isn't listed under EPA positions for hire yet but we all know HR can be slow as molasses in winter sometimes, especially this time of year. Word is that people are already being talked to, including one SEC asst S & C coach. This is a very important hire as we make the step up. We need to bring in someone with D-I experience and with more than one year in the position. Time to pony up and do the right thing.

Need size on the lines, speed everywhere else. But like most programs outside the top 10-15, we'll recruit fast guys who might be undersized and then bulk them up once they get on campus.

Young is a nice guy. He is (was) my neighbor at my part time place in Boone. I talked to him whenever we passed and like I said nice guy. But a boss I had a long time ago told me "nice guy" is not a profession. Wish him luck.

Wrapped up nice and neat with no bloodshed. That chapter is done. Time to move forward and for CC to do it right.

question for anyone who knows, what is an average salary for a S@C coach ? I know in the past we have had some really good coaches who left for bigger and better gigs, and I know money is tight, but this position is so important I wish we could find a few more bucks to keep a quality coach around atleast a few extra years.

I bet I know one HS coach who gets a call. He was in the mix last two times it was open with an external search....and has been in the mix for other jobs at both college and "big time" HS level. The kids who have gone away to schools come back and say their workouts are not in the same league as his were in HS. There were 9 kids currently in college in the weight room on Monday of last week.
It might be hard to leave with a HS Soph child but not impossible.

Wrong-Do some weight training. 'Cause all those olympic lifters are really fast!
I do agree that S&C need a healthy dose of oly. lifts. I do xfit, I know that a lot of the xfit moves are designed for explosive, quick movment. Cardio is not as much of a need, but are you going to tell me that tire flipping and sled pushing are not useful movements on the FB field. WRONG!

Tire flipping is similar to a power clean. Olympic lift.
Sled pulling would go under the conditioning aspect. I have no problem with that.
I do have a problem with light weight and high reps in a timed circuit manner. Which is what our fb was doing. In my eyes, that's more of a crossfit workout.
Good for general population. But not for athletes.
And I do lift. Thanks.

I know "movement" has been made but since nothing has been said by the university I really can't say any more on an open board. I promise I will post it as soon as something becomes public or official. Truly Sorry
