They use to appear in concert at App back in the day (The old Broome Kirk Gym):

I remember these fellas performing at Varsity Gym back in 1970, my freshman year at Watauga High:

I was there…I think! Those years are a little fuzzy for a variety of reasons.

Didn't see any shows at Broome-Kirk during my time in Boone but I saw some great ones at PB Scott's, the most memorable being the legendary BB King. I even got to shake the great man's hand afterward.

I saw 38 SPECIAL in Varsity Gym in the 80s. Not the best acoustics but a good band.

Then at the end of my junior year at Watauga these fellas came to Varsity Gym:

Atlanta Rhythm Section, Little River Band also played in varsity gym somewhere between 79-82.

Interesting. I saw his performance at Varsity circa 1993ish and it was the biggest disappointment of any concert I have ever attended. Perhaps it was just poor venue acoustics, but I would have sworn he was way too intoxicated to be charging folks to see him in that condition.

Before my time (79-83) but it seems like somebody told me Heart performed at Varsity around the mid 70s. I was at the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Little River Band homecoming concerts. A little off topic but we always loved going over to PB Scotts in Blowing Rock to see Sidewinder if anybody remembers them.

James Taylor played Varsity in 1991 and we had front row seats. It was an amazing show.

I saw Sidewinder several times in addition to The Spongetones, Cruise-a-Matic, Mike Cross and The George Hatcher Band to name a few. I spent more time at PB's than I did in the library!

Best memory for me. Black Crowes at some bar downtown Boone. Right before they hit it big and there were 20 people at the show that night. The bar didn't last very long. Early 90s (90 or 91)
Voltage Brothers in Happy's/Legends was always my favorite guaranteed good time band. (All covers...but fun)

I lived in Huey Dorm sophomore and junior years. Talk about great being a stumble away from a fun club. Greatest idea to bring in your own six pack, check it in and then given a punch card. Lots of fun at Happy’s- I forgot the name!

George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars was at Varsity in 95. That was one big cloud of smoke.

I was in the APPS club that programmed that show and got to work the setup that day. I'm embarrassed to admit I didn't know who George Clinton was at the time, but he was really cool. That was a fun club to be a part of between 94 and 98. We usually had meet and greets with the artists, and occasionally we were tasked with stuff like driving the artists back and forth to their hotel. Lots of fond memories. My favorite show I got to work wasn't one of the famous acts, it was a swing revival band called Royal Crown Revue. Those guys were really great to work with.
