Funny to me how mad some fans get about stuff like this. I know/know of many college athletes who cheer for a team besides (sometimes more than) the school where they play(ed).

And that's fine. The problem here is that they used an App twitter account to cheer for another team.

That's only part of the problem. Guarantee if that had been a darker blue or a red color, not nearly the reaction from our fans.

You can congratulate another school but for Christ's sake don't gush especially on the college radio station/twitter. The APP grads on WFNZ know how to do it right.

Just seeing this. Didn't see the original tweet b/c I guess it has since been deleted but it sounds pretty bad. I have no problem with supporting both schools, as I am a proud App and UNC fan, but they clearly shouldn't have used a official App twitter account to show their support. Not a good move... The WASU bonehead post and the reaction to it, for me, kind of encapsulates the dynamics around the "UNC fan but went to App" thing. I doubt anyone at the Wake Forest, NC State or Duke threads would have done anything like that. It's also, in my opinion, one of the big reasons it's so cool that we have the series with the Tar Heels in football, and them even coming to Boone. Granted it's football and not basketball, but If we can win one or two of the games in that series it would be huge.

That's the equivalent of thumbing your nose at your boss. I am not sure that young man was involved in the original blunder, but he should be replaced with a person that better understands the way the world works.

The original tweet was a huge blunder. Not bothered by the Ohio State sweatshirt. The only thing evident from the pic is that he is wearing it, not expressing any undying love for the Buckeyes.

At this point the whole WASU Sports Department is an embarrassment. The fact that someone from the administration or at least the faculty from the Communication Department has not gotten involved on this topic yet is shocking.

Here's my view:
1) its fine for them to personally be fans of any team that want. UNC, GaSo, etc.
2) It's fine for them to tweet out all the pics, messages they want to from their personal twitter account
3) It's fine for them to block anyone they want from their personal twitter account

4) It's NOT okay for them to block alumni from the WASU or App related twitter accounts
5) It's NOT okay for their profile pictures on the WASU website to showcase other universities
6) It's NOT okay for them to cheer for other universities from the WASU/App twitter accounts

Really? Royal blue looks down their noses at everyone. They don't block programs, but there's a good chance the boys in red do and they also look down at us.

Ok, it's officially gotten out of hand. I had a direct conversation with one of the KIDS involved (remember, we're talking about kids). He told me someone asked why he was such a big UNC fan and told this fan it's because his brother (who passed away) always wanted to go there...this person then told him he should join him.

If that's who you are, if you think something like that is appropriate, funny, or even tolerable kindly rescind your App State fandom. We don't need you.

We've played all three school in basketball in the last 5 years. That's not what I'm talking about.
I'm speaking to how UNC is the only of the three schools who have scheduled us in football since we have gone FBS.

But the thread was started because of a UNC BASKETBALL victory picture. I can assure you most UNC basketball fans are not UNC football fans. Also, worth mentioning Wake is the first P5 state school to schedule us since being in FBS. If we're including Duke in the conversation we must also include the other major private school.
