Saw some videos about TFR (temporary flight restrictions) and it appears true. I’ve been seeing private helicopters non-stop over the past several days and haven’t seen 1 today, only a lone Blackhawk fly over Boone so far. Anyone know why they’d implement a TFR? Those folks have been out saving people and doing supply drops in the most crucial areas. What’s the reasoning for this???
Because there have been at least 30 mid air close calls in the past 6 days in the mtns. Peoples intentions and actions are good but when everyone is acting outside official channels it complicates matters.
^this^

I can only speak to what's happening in BE/Avery County, but there are a tremendous number of private aircraft (fixed wing & rotary) involved in the recovery effort. Areas around BE Town Hall and the Elk River jetport are handling a TON of legit traffic from aircraft bringing in supplies/fuel/personnel as well as ferrying supplies out to areas that are hard hit and inaccessible.

Given there are no formal traffic control mechanisms (live or automated) set up in the area, it's a blessing from God that no mid-air collisions have happened there. So TFRs are completely understandable and warranted.

After my breakdown, when I can work that in , I’m sure I’ll have better insight. For now I suggest giving to or working with experienced, established organizations.

The entire concept of money is often amazing and yet baffling to me. A horrible event like this brings out the awesome great aspects of the human race but the money side is crazy to me. There are people with plenty of money in their bank accounts up in the mountains but if they are somewhat isolated with no water or power that money is meaningless right now. The FEMA $750 payment is a ridiculous joke. I know someone here who had flooding a few years ago and a representative came to their property and “offered” them $100. A $750 one timer that has to be applied for by someone with either nothing or even the means to apply for it is beyond insulting. I am one who also realistically thinks that the government can’t simply dole out billions every time a mass disaster happens but what is needed is a major effort to at least restore water and power. I have no idea what you do for massive loss of property. This is beyond comprehension.
The $750 is not all that is available through FEMA. Money will be available for rebuilding and repair, and much else.

Right, money needs to go to companies with heavy machinery, asphalt, infrastructure rebuilding capabilities. A billion would have a lot or companies willing to send time/resources to build back fast. Other countries rebuild bridges and roads in fraction of time things get done stateside bc of the restrictions/bureaucracy involved in EVERY single thing in this country.

My company, Piedmont Distillers, Inc., makes Midnight Moon Moonshine and we just launched this today on our social channels:

https://midnightmoonshine.com/nc

If you go to our Facebook page or other social media sites it's easier to share. We're based in North Carolina and Junior Johnson was from Wilkes County. Also, myself and one other here are App grads, so this hits home. We're planning to do more but it's a start. Please find our social pages and re-share.
Done! I also grabbed some Watermelon, Peach and Blackberry moonshine. I’m not much of a shine drinker but we’ll give it a go
Awesome! All three of those are good straight up out of the jar, over ice, or with mixers. Watermelon is good with Coke or Diet Coke, Blackberry is good with Coke or Diet Coke and awesome with lemonade and Peach is good with sweet tea. All over ice. Hopefully we'll get some action with the donations, we have a pretty decent social media following. Thanks!

Welcome to Alcoholics Anonymous,
Hey we don't encourage people to drink, but if they're going to...we have some fun stuff. BTW, we've had pretty good response so far on the T-shirt fundraiser and it just kicked off Friday.
