New Bowl for Sun Belt?

Unread post by JTApps1 » Thu Oct 01, 2015 9:09 am

According to Brant Wilkerson the Sun Belt has a press conference lined up for 1:30 today for a "major sporting event" in Tucson Arizona. Other reports say the Arizona Bowl will be announced.

This should make the fans at Texas State happy as they have been left out of bowls in past year due to location. At least in their minds. ;)

At 1-3 they've got a bit of work to do before they're even considered for a bowl game in their geographical vicinity.

The league needs a western bowl, with Texas State being the obvious beneficiary. The proposed Austin bowl would have been perfect - better, really. Wonder if this means that one has fallen through?

The folks who originally posted the news are now backtracking. It now appears to be a new bowl featuring teams from the Mountain West and C-USA.

Makes sense though when you think about it. Arizona might be attractive to the Texas teams and New Mexico State, but for the majority of the Sun Belt, that's not going to draw large crowds from a majority of Sun Belt schools. With New Mexico State's future up in the air, I would hinge my Arizona bowl on the Sun Belt either.

Aren't we supposedly getting another bowl but it's in the Bahamas?

So turns out we are a secondary tie in for this bowl just like the Bahamas Bowl and Miami Bowl. This should leave the door open for Charleston if they decide to move forward.

By next year two additional bowls will be added and anyone with a 6-6 record and a pulse will be bowling.

Pretty much the case for every league except the Sun Belt now. Might as well join the party!
