UT-C, Virginia Tech, and Bristol Motor Speedway
I don't know what year, but sometime in the near future Virginia Tech is playing at UT-C. Bruton Smith is going to outfit the Bristol Motor Speedway 3 weeks after a race into a football field for the game.
Reminds me of a game I attended with Wake Forest playing Maryland at old Bowman Gray Stadium with the Boy Scouts and the field had an automobile racing track around it. That was when I was 11 or 12 so my recollection could be way off base.

Huh? Are you talking about the Hokies vs. the Vols, scheduled for the 2nd week of the season next year (2016)? If so, this game has been in the works for years, announced well over a year ago...probably closer to two years ago at this point. I purchased my tickets a while ago, can't wait to see UT (the team of my youth and still my favorite P5 school) and VT in front of the largest crowd ever to attend a football game, and in one of my favorite stadia no less.NewApp wrote:I don't know what year, but sometime in the near future Virginia Tech is playing at UT-C. And the Winston-Salem State Rams still play football at Bowman-Gray and weekly racing is still going strong at the stadium on Saturday's nights. Bowman-Gray's racing season is one of the shorter schedules in short-track racing, as it wraps up relatively early to other tracks in the area, to allow the Rams to get the field ready and not have to worry about practice times, etc. Bowman-Gray is known nationwide for some of the baddest (in a good way) racing in the country, and to a packed house every Saturday night. Would've been neat to see Wake play there back in the day.

No, I'm talking about Virginia Teach vs University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The game will be played at Bristol Motor Speedway. I thought I made that clear. I was on the phone with my son who lives in Knoxville and has season tickets of some sort for the races at Bristol Motor Speedway. So he will be on a priority ticket status for the game at the Bristol Motor Speedway.HkyMtneer wrote:Huh? As to the VT-Tennesse game, do you mean it will be larger than the 107,000 fans when we defeated Michigan?

We were sitting in the end zone grand stand and didn't get to pay much attention for dodging beer cans being thrown at us from the drunks higher in the stands. And like I said we were only 11 or twelve at the time.HkyMtneer wrote:And the Winston-Salem State Rams still play football at Bowman-Gray and weekly racing is still going strong at the stadium on Saturday's nights. Hmmm...not sure where you got your info but I can almost guarantee you that no plans are in the works for VT at UT-C at BMS. Frankly, that would be tough to draw 40K. The VT/UT game scheduled for next September is the only game planned, at the time, for Bristol Motor Speedway. Some thought had been given to hosting a "lower-tier" game the week after the VT/UT game (possibly involving ETSU or someone of the like) but all those plans were shelved by the powers that be at SMI. Depending on the success of the VT/UT game both schools have said they would entertain hosting a "home" game at BMS in the future, against a big P5 opponent - think UT hosting ND at BMS or VT hosting West Virginia, but nothing could really happen before 2018-ish at this point, bar ESPN becoming really involved and facilitating a lot of schedule re-works. All that having been said, the plan is for the VT/UT game in September of next year to have a max capacity of around 150-155K, so yes, it would be by far the largest attended college football game on record. Currently tickets are only available for purchase by BMS race season ticket holders, though a one day sale in October will open seating up to the general public, and then as next September draws closer tickets will again open up to the general public, fans of each school outside the allotment, etc., should any remain....which it looks like will probably be the case. The break-even on this deal has been pegged at about 80,000 tixs needing to be sold, so needless to say, a VT/UTC matchup, even 5 or 6 years down the road wouldn't have a shot.

I think you're mistaken and/or got some misinformation from your son. VT plays UT next season in Bristol the week after we go to Knoxville. UT-C is not on VT's schedule through 2021.

He distinctly said Chattanooga. I will call him tomorrow and clarify it. He may have said UT-C when he meant UT.
