2013 FCS Playoffs
I notice the of the three way tie betwixt Furman, Samford and Chat the two privates earn an FCS playoff bid. I guess Samford beating FBS GaSt helped them and Chatt losing so bad (but it was to Alabama) yesterday hurt their bid. I did not follow Furman enough (ok really anyone in the SoCon) to know what their story was.
Thoughts? (Besides not caring , which is the obvious answer from some, and that is ok.)
Edit: noticed a word.

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
Both Sammie and Chatt beat Ga state. Chatt actually beat them by a larger spread. It is Unfortunate Chatt didn't make the field of 24. I bet that game 1 home loss to Tenn martin was the nail in the coffin.
Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
Furman won the tie-breaking procedures which earned them the conference's auto-bid. Samford and Chattanooga were both on the bubble with 8-4 records. I imagine that Samford's win over Chattanooga last week put them in a better position with the Selection Committee. Chattanooga regularly finds a way to mess up their playoff chances.
I'm thrilled that ASU is moving up to FBS but I will still enjoy following the FCS playoffs.

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
Furman had the tie breaker so they got the auto bid. They didnt have to beat anybody outside the conference. I feel a bit bad for Chat. Sammy just barely sweated out the win over e-loan yesterday. That aline should have counted against them.
Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
Southern Utah making the field was the biggest surprise to me. I did not think they would make the playoffs. They may have been the last team in while Chattanooga or Youngstown St were likely the first couple teams out of the bracket.
Of course, Southern Utah did beat the Sunbelt's South Alabama earlier this season.

You know the SoCon is down when the conference champs (in this case, both playoff-bound champs) are traveling.

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
Why would we not care? This is the conference we competed in THIS YEAR. This arrogance is so ridiculous. We finished 4-8 and lost to both teams that are going to the playoffs. App fans don't need to follow the playoffs at all, but if you are a football fan, you should definitely root for Furman and Samford, just like I was rooting for Ga Southern against Florida this past weekend. I forgot we were playing in the Sugar Bowl this year and the FCS is so far beneath us.

This is a playoff thread and I can't find a single post where anybody says they don't care. It was alluded to in the first post that there may be people who don't care, but there were people who didn't care when we were IN the playoffs and not one of them has posted on this thread. I certainly don't see any arrogance in this thread discussing the playoff field.
Seems like a pretty harsh reaction to something that hasn't even happened.

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
I don't see any posts about people not caring playoffs or being condescending to the FCS. I'll probably mildly follow them this year, but I can see my interest tapering off pretty quickly once we play a season or two in the FBS.
I was a huge Stink fan on Saturday. I shifted focus totally away from the WCU blowout during that last UF drive. It felt weird to pull for them, but you've got to cheer for our kindred spirit rivals in a game like that. When the last UF pass fell incomplete I definitely let out a Rick Flare "WOOOOOOO!!!!!"
Wasn't there a collective roar from the crowd at KBS when the score was announced? I hope there was a Sun Belt chant.

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
Not making excuses for our record, but notice five of our losses were to top 30 teams in FCS. Montana, Samford and Furman made the playoffs and Chatty/CSU were two on the bubble. Throw out the Georgia loss and we really only had two bad defeats (A&T and Citadel).
Side Note: Liberty destroyed CSU on Saturday 56-14 to keep them out of the playoffs. This game may be tougher than some think next year.

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
This is the most condescending post I've read on here in some time. I don't give a flying fart about Samford or Furman, and I sure don't need you telling me who I should or shouldn't root for, nor do I need you telling me what I should or shouldn't care about. No one in this thread has said a single thing about FCS being "beneath" us, and no one mentioned the Sugar Bowl. Get over yourself, or crawl back to your pity party.Seattleapp wrote:Why would we not care? This is the conference we competed in THIS YEAR. This arrogance is so ridiculous. Wow, calm down Seattle... Lord knows I have thin skin when it comes to my beloved playoffs... But even I didn't read it as a slam...Seattleapp wrote:Why would we not care? I too was VERY surprised that Chatty got "Woofed". SCSU didn't have a really good resume and I figured they would get pushed aside.
Talk about rough... SOCON gets some MONSTER 2nd round travel games should they win...
And it seems to me that the committee certainly gave NDSU a pretty easy path to Texas....

1. They've earned it.vegattk wrote:And it seems to me that the committee certainly gave NDSU a pretty easy path to Texas....
2. They took our place as the glamour team in FCS, so it's in FCS' interests to have them there.

Personally, I always really liked the playoffs and although I will not have the interest I have had for the past 15 years or so, I will follow them ---

Re: 2013 FCS Playoffs
I know some of us do care, and will continue to care, hence the reason for the thread starting. What I did not want is any FCS-FBS getting in the way or anyone poo-pooing the whole playoff. I just wanted discussion of the playoffs from those (and there are many of us) that care. No offense meant to anyone.Seattleapp wrote:Why would we not care?
