I was long a proponent of moving on from
FCS and the SoCon, but man has that conference really continued it’s slide since App and GaSo left. It’s a shell of its former self, and the fan support shows…

10,340 - Citadel (2 games)
10,324 - Mercer (4 games)
10,061 - Western Carolina (3 games)
10,028 - ETSU (4 games)
9,463 - Furman (3 games)
8,188 - UTC (4 games)
5,455 - Samford (3 games)
5,437 - VMI (4 games)
3,618 - Wofford (3 games)

Is it really that much worse than when we were there? I didn't think attendance outside of App State was that great when we were in the conference. Also, I'm not of retirement age but still old enough to remember when 10K would have been a reasonable crowd at Kidd Brewer.

Furman still sucks.

18,000 or so was a good crowd for us in the late 80's early 90's when I was in school. Best crowd (not necessarily the largest) was when we beat Marshall in a night game in '92 I think. Marshall was #1 iirc.

UTC has got to be the most underwhelming school left in the conference. I really thought they would dominate in football after we left. Really no excuse for their lack of success. I know they get ranked and have been to the playoffs but they never have a good run and terrible support. It is just pathetic. Same for Western, but I expect that from them. And, 77 is right, Furman still sucks!

I will always appreciate UTC letting us use their stadium (The Rock South) to win 3 National Championships. Nice place to visit too.

So our average attendance after 5 games is 34,074 which is about half the TOTAL attendance of the ENTIRE SoCon. Yep, we were long overdue leaving that place. It was good for us at one point but seems like a long time ago and a different world away from where we are now.
