The Aggies beat NC Central 24-10 to finish the regular season 11-0, becoming the second D1 team in state history to finish a regular season undefeated after the 1995 Apps.

Good for them. Assume they will be one of the Celebration Bowl participants?

Rod Broadway is a winner wherever he goes. Known him since 1971 when he played for West Stanly.

I don't know what they charge for home football games, normally, but Broadway was mildly complaining about attendance in the Greensboro paper earlier in the week. In this mornings paper there was a special 1/4 wrap around the front page and it was mentioned tickets were $37. I am happy for A&T and root for them, but that seems rather expensive for FCS games.

They really should go to the fcs playoffs and waive the celebration bowl

Awesome achievement. They've got a really good team this year and a great coach. I hope they are able to go deep into the playoffs this year On another FCS note, JMU is a beast.

The MEAC and SWAC have the Celebration Bowl that pays out enough money that even an 11-0 team will not go to the FCS playoffs. A shame really as this is an obvious good year to see how the best of MEAC football stands up against the rest of the FCS.

Yeah, but I wonder how much $$ would be brought in (long term) with a national championship? Say, name recognition, more applicants, sponsorships, donations, ticket sales, etc. maybe you get some of that with a celebration bowl win . . . But an HBCU winning it all, got to think that would have a longer financial windfall, as well as a statement/opportunity that is more important than money.

I agree with all you state with two or three additional thoughts. Though I do wish all the FCS conferences would send a team to the playoffs

1. I have no idea of the contract between ESPN and the MEAC & SWAC. I imagine there is some sort of escape clause for any given year but into the future ESPN might pull this game and the money that goes with it if the two conference champs don't show up for this game.

2. Future dollars are likely under your scenario if A&T won it all, but not a guarantee. The money from NBC is guaranteed. and guaranteed NOW I would assume. $1 Million for each conference. If I can be allowed to use the phrase "shit-ton," then that is a shit-ton of money for a program at the FCS level in an HBCU conference.

3. There is no guarantee either the MEAC nor the SWAC would go very far into the playoffs. Traditionally since the forced move in 1981 neither conference has been setting the pace in the playoffs during the years they participated in the FCS playoffs. I wish the Aggies success, but they could be embarrassed.

Though again I do wish every FCS conference had a change and was required to send a team to the playoffs with costs covered by the NCAA.

Congrats to Rod Broadway and the Aggies. Rod is a class act and from what I hear about his team, they play hard and well, play within the rules and play until the whistle blows the ball dead. The mark of a good and well-coached team!

Congrats to the Aggies! I love that they thumbed there nose at the FCS playoffs and did it their way. I don't think they would have outlasted the likes of NDSU, SDSU or JMU, but we will never know. 12-0 with a conference and bowl championship is no slouchy season and they should be proud of what they accomplished.

Go Aggies! I have been a fan ever since I lived in Greensboro in the 80's.

I am glad to see them win but they did it for the $. Much bigger payout for this game on ABC than anything the FCS playoffs could have given them. I wish both could have happened. In the end I don't think their 12-0 record could match the top 4 and maybe the top 8 of the FCS, but we will never know. But that is based on historical match-ups between MEAC and SWAC and the rest of the FCS. All the more reason I wish the Aggies had been in the playoffs, though I can't argue with their reasoning.

It was nice to see A&T get some love from the Greensboro paper (as did UNCG MBB today with a win over NC State.) and not only have UNC-CHeat get most of the sports front page and color photos.

Not much. Looks like the MEAC ,(and is it the SWAC),have created their own deal .It might grow in the coming years.
