Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Appdoggys heart will be broken when the sanctions come down. Along with RollNeers apparently. Also, RollNeers, don't be too surprised when those sanctions do come down. The writing has been on the wall with every step UNC has taken. This year will be the MBB teams last NCAA tourney run for a while. Enjoy it while you can. Although I personally don't know how one can get such joy from cheering for a school he never actually attended. But that's just me.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
My question is simple: why WOULDN'T you be pissed?
UNC-Chapel Hill is the flagship institution of the UNC system and they have run a sham of an athletic department for decades now. Carolina represents what the UNC system considers to be the "best of the best," which also comes down on us. Every institution in the UNC system should be pissed off at this scandal.
Let's look at another piece of this puzzle: just recently, App State was penalized and had to serve a post-season ban (men's basketball) for low grades. WE were penalized for our student-athletes not excelling in their classes, all while UNC FAKED classes so their "student"-athletes would do nothing but excel. UNC literally allowed their students fake their way to a degree, while App stood their ground, accepted the penalty, and raised their standards.
And yet another piece of the puzzle: UNC has thrown every student-athlete, aside from their football and men's basketball players, under the bus in order to save face and be able to still bring in revenue. They knew that they had screwed up and that they had been caught, but rather than owning up to it, they pointed the finger elsewhere in the department. THEY ADMITTED that they had done wrong, but they just didn't want their two big programs to be targeted.
Finally, Carolina has never, ever done anything to help Appalachian State University. Instead, they have continuously knocked us down whenever we tried to better our university and the experience of our students. Just a few years back, App attempted to increase the amount of PhD programs we offered, only for UNC to vote against us last minute, as one of the programs would have competed against one of their own. Carolina wants to always be the big man on campus and will do everything they can to make sure they knock everybody else down.
Also, on a side note: the UNC system will always cover for Chapel Hill. When you have a corrupt system, you enable your flagship institution to be corrupt. There are currently 33 members of the UNC System Board of Governors. Let's look at how that membership breaks down!
UNC-Chapel Hill: 12
Appalachian: 3
East Carolina: 4
NC State: 4
While other Board members are from outside of the UNC system, 12 of them received their degrees from Chapel Hill. The following universities are not represented on the Board of Governors: WCU, NC A&T, UNCG, UNCC, UNCA, UNCP, UNCW, Fayetteville State, Elizabeth City State, NCCU, School of Science and Math, School of Arts, and Winston-Salem State. Please, tell me that doesn't seem a bit off.

If for no other reason, if you pay taxes in NC, you should care about this tarhole cesspool.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
The part that gets missed as well is that it wasn't only athletes in these sham classes. You had regular students not doing a bit of work and receiving A's. I didn't have the option to not do work at App and still receives those QPs for a 3 or 4 credit hour class (and my GPA certainly reflected that haha). People see that as inconsequential but when applying to grad schools your undergrad GPA is obviously taken into account and I'm having to compete against kids with artificially inflated GPAs? Yeah that's BS. The effects of this scandal are wide reaching.

To compound that, I seem to remember about a decade ago an article explaining how professors in CH were encouraged to inflate grades.Yosef10 wrote:The part that gets missed as well is that it wasn't only athletes in these sham classes. Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Personally I don't put the blame on the "student-athletes". I am not an APP grad so I'm not reflecting negatively on this fine institution, but back in the late 60s if I had been told I could get an A for a class and never attend I would have done it in a second. My wife, the Ph.D. would never, ever considered such a thing. To me, at least 99% of the guilt falls upon the university (UNC), its coaches, and its academic leaders !!!

Re: RE: Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
There is a conspiracy theory that Fatz's girlfriend assisted with the diagnosing of LD/ADHD of UNC's athletes. Fatz, as in the head of the Wheelz for Heelz Foundation, whose cousin is part of the UNC Dental Foundation that was used to launder money to pay their athletes.appbio91 wrote:Good lord, I had not heard this. Just read a small snippet, 61% of FB and the WBB athletes listed as LD/ADHD while general population rate is 11%. Prescribed drugs banned by NCAA as performance enhancers and given academic accommodations. This started BTW after the heat was turned up on the fake classes so sorry to those who thought they were clean now. These people are beyond cheating, someone might have to spend time in jail over this.Longrifle28 wrote:Apparently, the latest prong is starting to gain traction. The designation of athletes as LD and ADD. Looks like academic accommodations and drug prescriptions need to be investigated.

Re: The Carolina Way (Cont'd)
Chapel Hill, N.C. — University of North Carolina junior cornerback Marvin Lee (M.J.) Stewart and former cornerback Michael Hughes each admitted guilt Monday to an assault charge stemming from an incident at a Franklin Street fraternity house on Oct. 4.
Stewart and Hughes were linked to what the incident report described as a forcible attack.
Two men who lived at the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity house were punched, one so hard his nose was broken and knocked unconscious, according to warrants for the players’ arrest.
Under the terms of the admission, Stewart and Hughes have been ordered to split equally $2,406.81 in restitution, each complete 100 hours of community service and not commit any crimes for one year.

That one game suspension will show them. Also, I'd expect to see a withdrawal from the NC Dental Foundation account soon for the approximate amount of...$2,406.81.

Syracuse is a novice at cheating compared to UNC. Oh, and Syracuse was punished. Can't really compare the two.
