Is there room for an 800 meter track, stands, parking, equipment storage, lighting etc.? The track infield itself could practically house the area where the Broyhill site now stands. A heck of a lot of fill would have to be hauled in.
If prospective recruits turn down offers to play for the Mountaineers as implied by some kid on twitter last week solely because the Stadium looks high schoolish, we don't need him.
Never heard any of the broadcasters on ASU's televised games ever mention the stadium looking high schoolish or ever mention the track even. EVER. It offers a buffer zone between drunken students and the players and allows a space the cheerleaders and the "dance team" to perform. The d@mn track is the least of our worries.

Neither have I. Maybe we should Google "800 Meter Track" & "Dubai". If anyone is going to have one those guys will!hapapp wrote:I've never heard of an 800 meter track.NewApp wrote:JTApps1 wrote:The Broyhill Inn is being torn down. Why not put it there? There are two kinds of countries out there: those that use the metric system and those that have been to the moon.

I agree the track should be relocated, if at all possible. Wrapping it around a soccer pitch seems to a popular approach to other schools recently removing the track from their football stadiums (i.e. Duke, Washington). I use these examples because with all deference to the soccer programs, we need the remove them from the football field as well. We are becoming one of very few FBS programs that not only have a track, but also have a multipurpose field. I've not done the research, but off the top of my head I cannot think of another FBS program that has soccer lines on their football field on gameday. That also contributes to the high school feel.
I think there are options, I like the roof of a parking deck idea, may be a bit cost prohibitive, but I don't think there is an inexpensive option out there. I also think that moving the field closer to the stand is a an idea with merit. I'm not sure how exactly to do it, but it seems like moving the field closer to the home side and then moving the other stands over as well may buy the university some space for more facilities and perhaps an opportunity to increase seating on that side.

Have you been to a game in the last 3-5 years? No soccer lines on the football field. It is a single purpose field.MtnDevil95 wrote:I agree the track should be relocated, if at all possible. There are only 5 FBS teams with tracks left.
Kansas, Nevada (they have end zone seats above theirs), Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, and App.

I was with one of my best friend's dad at the Clemson game and we were discussing App's stadium. He called it a glorified Texas high school football stadium. As much as I wanted to argue against him, I couldn't. He's right. Kidd Brewer NEEDS to have the track removed. The cheapest and easiest option is to move the field 20 feet closer to the home side and on the visitor side build a new lower deck right on top of the old one that extends 20 feet father out. The concrete foundation is already built.
I'd thought of a 2nd level on the parking deck a long time ago. I like the idea someone presented above. Put a level upper deck on top of stadium lot with a natural grass soccer pitch and a sky bridge straight to the stadium entrance. Only tents up top, no vehicles. Half numbered spaces, half Ole Miss land-grab style. It would be PRIMO tailgating real estate and be a very unique tailgate experience, and a great way to add green space to campus.

Makes senseHkyMtneer wrote:Elon to Durham is about a 45 minute drive. As for money...we're hurting for a money A LOT more than Elon! Yes, our annual athletic budget is larger than Elon, obviously, but if Elon needs $$$ they make a few calls. If we need $$$ we have to make 10x as many calls to generate the same funds. Elon's endowment alone is approaching $200mil. while we are slowly but surely climbing towards the $100mil plateau, with an alumni base that dwarfs Elon's. Simply put, we have a Very different alumni base and there really isn't much we can do about that. Also, don't get me wrong - Elon needs those money games just as much as us, but they are essential to our life-blood whereas they are a bonus for Elon and offer the Phoenix a chance to maybe make their own Michigan moment.NewApp wrote:Regardless that would be big money for an Elon of the world. That doesn't bother me at all. One of the ways got funds for our stadium from the legislature back in day was to make it a true multi-purpose facility. Intramural, track, soccer, student use, community use etc. This come from the horse's mouth. Same thing for Holmes. If we were going to make it essentially a basketball arena only , we wouldn't have gotten it in the first place.JTApps1 wrote:There are only 5 FBS teams with tracks left.

Umm, just a slip of the tongue. I helped coach track at Albytown and ran track in high school.HkyMtneer wrote:Neither have I. Maybe we should Google "800 Meter Track" & "Dubai". Kidd Brewer was opened in 1962...53 years ago...the statute of limitations has long since passed. Time to get rid of that track. Besides, there's no reason a soccer stadium can't be a multi-purpose facility and KBS be dedicated to football.NewApp wrote:One of the ways got funds for our stadium from the legislature back in day was to make it a true multi-purpose facility.

I blame Irwin Belk. He put a track around every field he could. Maybe his family would be willing to build another one so we can remove this one.

Umm Boise state still has their track. They just covered the side track surface with a mat like material.

They also built seats across each end zone and no longer use that track. Just because we remove the track doesnt mean we have to build seats closer on the sidelines. it is an option, but not a necessity to do so. It would give uae the ability to enclose both end zones though.boonetown1 wrote:Umm Boise state still has their track. They just covered the side track surface with a mat like material.

We would have been idiots not to have done so. It would have wasted valuable resources and extremely hard to obtain real estate.Appstate88 wrote:I blame Irwin Belk. He put a track around every field he could. Maybe his family would be willing to build another one so we can remove this one.

Except we don't exactly own the present soccer field unless we build an entirely new complex.APPdiesel wrote:Kidd Brewer was opened in 1962...53 years ago...the statute of limitations has long since passed.
