Let them enjoy the attention now, because after the inaugural game, they will be lucky to have their games on page 13D in the Observer and their highlights sandwiched between Wingate and J.C. Smith.

Don't be so sure. They already got a major bit of exposure when JR gave them 10 Mil.
We need to get over that CPCC type image as a comuter school. That could change over night and we could stall if we have a major losing season down the road in FBS. We have a football tradition and they don't but that doesn't preclude them building a huge following once they get established. I wouldn't be surprised if JR coughs up more money for them in the not too distant future. Those of us who remember their turnaround in basketball with Melvin Watkins, Cornbread Maxwell and company realize how quickly and explosively any school can make the headlines. It took all I could muster not to cheer for them in those days. Something similar could happen for them in football with a little (or lot) of luck. Look how much mileage we got out of the Michigan win. The UNC-C students, fans and following are just looking for an entity to provide some excitement other than bars, high school sports, BobCats and Panthers. Some of that Carolina Blue might develop a tinge of green. Heaven forbid.

JCline,
Really?! I have to say that your overly optimistic view of the UNcc football future is even rosier than their delusional fans. Huge following, more millions from Richardson, and on-field results similar to the '77 Final Four team? Are you serious? And you see App "stalling" after several losing seasons?

If Judy ever ever gets the nerve to play us, I''d like to make a wager with you. I know who you'll be betting on.

Somehow you have TOTALLY misconstrued my post. I never predicted anything. I'm just saying we shouldn't be surprised if they have the potential to have some great years and develop a more loyal fanbase than many of us expect of them. Twenty years ago, who would have predicted we could defeat Michigan in front of what...105K... fans and broadcast on national TV while we were still in a lower subdivision?
Please learn to read before you go off on some wild arse assumptions of what I posted.
As to betting on. You don't know me well at all if you think I'd be betting on anybody but ASU

Oh and as to JR, did you ee the 10 Mil coming from him? I'm surprised he hasn't doled out more. Anything good for Charlotte is good for his pockets and ego.

JCline,

I really don't care to drag this out further with you. I've read numerous similar exchanges between you and others, and you seem to give way too much credit to teams that are not APP STATE. If YOU read my first post carefully, you'll see it pertained to UNcc not being able to sustain all of the wonderful publicity they are currently enjoying, once the season starts, and they begin losing.
If you disagree with that, you are either ignorant of the Charlotte market media, or "green" with envy.

I think JCline was simply acknowledging that while we think it will take UNCC time to build a program - they have some things going for them that MAY help them build their program quicker than some may think.

Personally, I think Charlotte will get off to a strong start in 2013 because their schedule is made for it. They play a weak enough schedule that they will pick up a winning season. If they don't, they are in for an incredibly hard road ahead. Just my opinion, but I think that the 2014 will be where their wheel runs off. The schedule gets tougher against somewhat more legit competition. Even then, if they hold their own against the FCS independent schedule in 2014, they run headlong into CUSA in 2015 and I don't see them being able to compete at that level. Their rapid "rise" to FBS could seriously backfire.

I'm not ruling out the POSSIBILITY that Charlotte could step up and surprise people. On paper they have recruited pretty well. If things gel and they compete, it will pay serious dividends to them, but I'm guessing things might be tough in Charlotte for a few years. We really won't have much basis for an actual evaluation until 2014.

Charlotte media is certainly helping their cause. They had an entire page in the sports section on Sunday. On the adjacent page the ACC, SEC etc was condensed. Tom Sorenson also dedicated some of his column on the rise of sports in Charlotte to the team we are not supposed to be talking about any more. :D
I have to be on UNCc campus this Friday. Might take a look if they are on the practice field.

Best way for us to counter all the uncc rise, if there is going to be one, is to concentrate on what
we can control and build on.

Agreed GoApps70,
We've got too much excitement ahead of us to spend any time even thinking about them.
Only time will tell 1) How well the team performs and 2) How well fan/alumni/community support will be sustained.
The best and worst thing for them is that the CUSA is not what it once was. Good because they may actually not go winless for very long and bad because the conference is a far cry from what they thought they were signing up for. Regarding their fans, If I had to guess, I'd predict fair weather and bandwagon support, along with a faithful few hundred.
If they ever catch us in either team performance or fan support, then shame on us.

Go APP. Beat the Griz.

We're about to find out what kind of fan support we have as well. We aren't going to win 8, 9, 10+ games for a couple seasons. In fact we will likely have a losing season during the two year transition period depending on the schedule.

How will our fanbase react? I'm not going to throw stones at another fanbase until I see how ours reacts to adversity.

I'd say pretty well if the W*rk*ng years could be used as a barometer. Heck we did not fold the tent then, I see no reason to start creasing the edges now. Winning has a way of correcting most of what is ailing. (Just as, IF we can win on the hardcourt this fall, the crowds will be back and loud. Winning again, IF we have a few stumbles always cures the pain.

Not me. My writing skills are better and I don't agree that UNCc is going to lose most of their games. I mean look at that schedule.

I don't know why you would blame App fans. The whole world of sports fans that have spent any time interacting with your "fanbase" feels the same way.
